I'm done with winter.
Done with the cold. Done with the gray skies. Done with being stuck inside. Done with looking out the window at nothing but dead grass and bare trees.
I want to go outside without multiple layers on. I want to feel the sun on my face. I want to take a walk without it wrecking me. The cold aggravates my lungs. Bad lungs and cold air don't mix. So I'm stuck inside while winter drags on.
I want to go fishing. Throw some lines in the water. Sit there and not think about anything except whether something's going to bite. Just me and the water and some quiet.
But really I want to get my youngest son out there with me. He's in school and works. Time is harder to come by. I get it. But some of my best memories are fishing with my kids. Doesn't matter if we catch anything. Never really did. It's the sitting there together. The conversations that happen when you're not trying to have a conversation. The comfortable silence between casts.
I miss that. Want more of it while I can.
I'm tired of the short days. It gets dark at 7 PM and my brain thinks it's time for bed. The lack of sunlight does something to you. Drains the energy right out. Makes everything feel heavier than it needs to be.
I want to work on my yard. Plant those tomato seeds once spring arrives. Open the windows and let fresh air into this house. Do something outside that doesn't involve bundling up like I'm heading to Antarctica just to check the mail.
Spring can't come fast enough. I know it's coming. The days are getting a little longer. But it's not here yet and the waiting is getting old.
That damn groundhog saw his shadow. So apparently we've got more of this to look forward to. Thanks Phil. Appreciate it.
I'm not asking for summer. Just give me some 50 degree days. Some green. Some life. Something other than this cold gray bullshit. Give me weather I can actually be outside in without paying for it later.
Until then I'll be here. Waiting. Complaining. Counting down the days.

It's strange and funny, I like its cold and gray climate, and although I know I wouldn't be able to stand it, I would like a little of that cold. It's so hot here, you start sweating in seconds, the sun burns your skin. I hope your weather improves. The cold seems to seep into your bones, that's truly painful.
Not a big fan of it too hot either. Spring and fall are my favorite seasons. No doubt the humidity is probably bad there. I would hate that more than the heat itself. Yes, cold does cause some joint aches for me. Just getting older I guess.
I hear you. We were teased a week ago with spring like weather than a snow storm and now it looks like maybe spring like again. Hopefully spring will just arrive and stay. Oh throwing some lines does sound awfully good right now. I too hope to take my son out as well!
I'd like maybe one more big snow on a weekend when I don't have anything going on, but then after that, I am good. It's crazy how much they get on the East coast now and we get nothing.
If you do get one, keep it up there. I'm done with it all. Snow too.
Yeah, New Jersey area especially.
You reminded me of when I used to go fishing with my brother, great conversations and lots of fun. Those days are gone, today we enjoy other things when we get together as a family. I hope winter goes away soon!!!
You should schedule a fishing trip with him just for old time sake. I bet you would have a great time.
Now we are in another country, things have changed, we don't even have fishing rods, but we are still fine.
Just be patience my friend, the wait will be over and springs will come.
and time for gardening. ;)
