The Silverbloggers Chronicles #16. Worries

One of the good things about getting older is that we learn to take things more calmly, to see the horizon with more balanced eyes, to value things better, to exaggerate less, and as a result of all that, we also stop worrying about unimportant issues.

In my younger years, I had a tendency to worry too much. And I say worry too much because I really entered a state of anxiety where I saw everything as more difficult. When the start of the school year was approaching, I would check my accounts over and over again and feel like I wouldn't be able to get the kids ready for when classes started.

The funny thing is that I always could. There wasn't a single year when I couldn't buy them what they needed to start school with new uniforms, shoes, and school supplies. I always took the necessary precautions and saved enough to be able to meet those commitments, and yet I worried. It was in my mind. It was like a habit to worry about every detail of life.

Now the boys have grown up, and those school years are behind us. Now it is my granddaughters who are at that beautiful stage of school, and now it is my children who have to walk the path I once walked with them.

From time to time, I catch myself thinking about them and wondering if the world they live in is more difficult than the one I lived in. In many ways, it seems that it is...

But with that question comes the tendency to worry about things that no one really knows how they will turn out, because as the poet said: tomorrow's world cannot be visited, not even in dreams... So it's best to stop preparing for something that may not turn out the way I thought it would.

In my country, we have been living in a very difficult economic situation for several years now. The economy has entered an inflationary spiral from which it cannot escape, the currency is worth less every day, and purchasing power is collapsing by the minute. Every time we go to the pharmacy or the supermarket, the prices are different. There is a great deal of uncertainty.

In such conditions, where all certainties are disappearing, it would be very easy to fall into anxiety and worry. And there are many people, especially younger ones, who are swept up in these states of anxiety.

What I have done to get through this climate of instability is to accept that there is very little I can do at the moment to change the situation. In reality, solving the country's economic problems is far beyond my control...

Instead of worrying about this complicated and difficult situation, I have learned to focus on the immediate things and, above all, on those that I can solve, such as writing these publications or any of the activities related to what I do at HIVE.

We all have the opportunity to focus on the things we can do. These may be very simple matters related to everyday life, or they may be personal projects such as increasing our endurance through exercise, increasing the length or frequency of our walks, cultivating hobbies, or other such matters. We can always find something important enough to focus our attention on.

Stopping worrying unnecessarily is a task that is well worth all the effort. Learning to identify what is really within our reach and focusing on that will surely lead to a more pleasant and peaceful life. I invite you to think about that.

Thank you so much.

I have experienced what you have gone through. Though both me and my husband were working, at the time of reopening of school and college, its a big challenge to meet their financial needs, though we keep aside their requirements. Nice one and a lovely memory. 👍

I'm glad you liked it. Sometimes it's hard to break the habit of worrying. You were also able to resolve the school expenses, that's great. Thanks for stopping by and commenting, dear @shamis . A big hug from Maracay.

TRUE, I agree with you that as we grow older we change a lot especially on terms of what is our priorities. Like choosing my battles, choosing friends too. The more we grow older we learned to be more smart also on how to deal life.
