September: Subtly Spectacular Changes

In the tropics, we don't experience seasonal changes like those in temperate latitudes, whether in the north (autumn) or south (spring). In September, we are in the midst of the rainy season, with lightning and thunder accompanying copious downpours. However, sunsets turn intense orange and purple, from what I've been able to capture from my western window.

The September equinox occurs today, a time of change even for those of us near the equator. This moment implies the balance of cosmic forces and is an opportune moment to reflect on our own lives and our connection with nature. Perhaps I've never stopped to think about it before, swept away by the dynamics of modern life.

Many cultures have celebrated the equinox throughout history. But for us, born in the tropics, we don't celebrate it. Even more so now, when the world has shrunk with technology and forced migration, traditions find new ways of existing.

Yesterday, my daughter received some yellow flowers from a man from the south as a gift for the arrival of spring, while the darkening sky announced the downpour that arrived without delay. Yes, September heralds changes in nature, no matter how subtle they may seem.

In September, school vacation ends, and children's excitement is reborn. New uniforms and shoes brighten their eyes, while they carry lunchboxes in their hands and books and notebooks in their backpacks. Parents make an effort to provide what their little ones need to acquire the best possible education. Of course, not everyone is so fortunate. Some inherit their older siblings' uniforms and books to continue the cycle.

In the mornings, when I take my youngest daughter to work, I look at the school entrances. Sleepy children and others smiling remind me of my own experience. I'm amazed at how much time has passed and how little I feel I've changed in the essence of my being. Then, I see myself taking my children to school, while in the car, I listen to the music of my adolescence. By the way, an early inheritance for them. Sometimes I listen to it again on their smartphones, mixed with the current ones in the fusion of three generations: those of our parents, ours, and theirs.

Yes, September heralds changes in nature, however subtle they may seem. Happy holidays and a rebirth of spirit.

Greetings, my dear SilverBloggers.

Septiembre: Cambios sutilmente espectaculares

Sort:

Thank you Jana
In the Northern Hemisphere, it is the date of the Autumnal Equinox, which marks the official first day of autumn.
In the Southern Hemisphere, it's the Vernal Equinox, which marks the first day of spring.
I never knew that. Ironically here we often say September the 1st is the start of Autumn as there are three months to each season.
September often is an Indian summer month in Scotland and has beautiful sunny days and cold nights. For example we got down to 2 degrees last night, in the day it was sun and 15 degrees. Yes both are very cold to you down there lol. But we don't get the tropical rains that you get...

Hi, @tengolotodo

Yes, I know. My sister lived for a while in a London suburb, and she always told me how cold the UK is. I guess Scotland is much colder.

Although I live in the tropics, it's also true that the heat is tempered because my home is at an altitude of 1,500. The average annual temperature is between 19 and 22 degrees Celsius. Of course, between January and February, it reaches about 10 degrees Celsius, and I feel like my soul is freezing. Ha ha ha.

On the other hand, my hometown usually reaches 50 degrees Celsius this time of year. You can fry an egg on the hood of a car at midday. However, some people say that Maracaibo is a very cold city: Most homes have air conditioners running at full power year-round. So when the power goes out, tragedy strikes, and the heat hits even the most acclimatized.

Enjoy your fall and the picturesque flowers of this season. Here in the tropics, we don't have these beautiful seasonal panoramas.

Greetings, my friend.

As much as I love heat and have lived in many hot countries around the world, anything over 40 is really not pleasant. I love being outdoors and at those temperatures it is no feasible!
10 you get to 10 ! Wow that is cold.
Yeah Scotland is colder than England but not much colder. In fact where I am we don't really get snow, yet England gets much more.

I like the way you call music and early inheritance.

I enjoyed you describing what seasonal change is on the equator. Down south here in Australia seasons are dramatic and I can't imagine living without them.

Hello, @riverflows

Australia! It's practically a continent in the southern part of the planet. I've only read and watched a few documentaries online about your beautiful country, and I understand your feelings.

I assume it's already spring, like here in the southern tip of South America.

So I hope you enjoy this season.

Greetings.
