Evaluate Situation Before Spending
Logical thinking is the process of using reasoning to analyze a situation and reach a sensible, rational conclusion.
Take time before making decisions, especially when high cost is involved, mid-June high winds ripped portion of a wall down, following week insurance assessed the border wall no longer treated as such, now classified a retaining wall due to sand build up over the years.
Mental predicament ensued, plant hedges or change frontage. Thorny hedge would resolve to a certain degree, however with crime on the increase how long would one wait for fully fledged growth affording security. Really angry about insurance not assisting after forty years being insured, almost felt right to simply hedge the problem up.
Somersault thinking eventually led to what path I would have to take, security in our country comes first and foremost, an expensive reality living in a free standing home in the suburbs.
Whether I stay or go, reality is something had to be done. Discussion with my neighbour who preferred the concrete wall, hence the side wall that was leaning due to movement of soil over the years was replaced with precast walls as previously used, in previous content.
Discussion with construction team was to cut the old forty-plus year wall down to a level to remain, retaining the sand that flows down. Parallel to old the new would be installed, this way no new plans required via Municipality at further expense.
Must be honest it looks good, should retain sand movement hopefully into the future (mud slides are common here during rainy season).
Serves the purpose that bends reality to fit a specific problem, only heavy heart decision is the loss of the jasmine for the birds sanctuary, optimistic the roots still hold for future growth to fill the gap once more.

Low wall next to carport left as is, simply added new to close the gap of possible jumping in there too.
Still more to be done, neaten old wall up with a lick of concrete paint giving that new life, something for Vusi to enjoy when coming in once a week. What are your thoughts about tackling these awkward situations that never come cheap, logical thinking is critical knowing the local laws and conditions related to moving soil.
Have a wonderful new week and thanks for visiting.

Hehehe.😁.
Insurance companies really take the biscuit now. Any excuse not to pay out. Looks good now though. I am with you on the wildlife and do worry when trees and bushes are cut down here.
Irony with these insurance companies, Oh said the Assessor "if they replace, it would be like for like", how the hell would that serve a long term problem?
No three months to pontificate most sensible approach, meeting my approval not theirs. Birds still arriving, hope the greenery recovers to grow through once again.
Hehe your approval is the only one that counts!
Well nature is resilient, so yes I am sure that greenery will recover.
Hello, dear friend @joanstewart, good afternoon.
I'm very sorry that the insurance won't cover the cost of building the perimeter wall. However, you've done very well.
The enclosure looks great and fulfills its security role.
I'd like to wish you a great week.
It will take time adjusting to, now completed onto the next task at hand. Security most definitely is in high demand, slow them down you cannot stop them.
The more you know, the smoother it goes. That's the usual rule of thumb. It is true, the bigger the problem, the more expensive the solution. !BBH
Living here a long time one reads the weather patterns and tries your best to protect oneself, early years we had water through the house on two occasions. Hubby tackled putting in proper water outlets off the property at the time.

I really hope the jasmine surprises you, miss mine, it's all flowering now!
Those blasted insurance companies will avoid paying at all costs! It's a crying shame!
Jasmine was in full flower, bush was heavy went out in two loads carried by two men each time staggering under the weight.
Often annoyed with these insurance companies, now advise young generation to open a separate investment account for rainy days in preference to using them wherever possible.
That's exactly how I felt, but the only problem is when there's a major catastrophe, but even then, insurance companies find deductions for claims, so the claimant ends up with very little, as happened with our friends whose home was mowed down by mudslides in 2022.
Happened to so many in recent years, money spinners we have to be aware of all the time.

Insurance companies vs banks, I can't say which one is more wicked and heartless. They both operate the same.
Teaches us good lessons to always be weary of them, con-artists in white collars that is all they are.
