Sir Isaac Newton’s Apple Tree and farmhouse 🌳🍎 ~ Woolsthorpe Manor UK 🇬🇧

in Silver Bloggers2 years ago

Hi all 👋🏻

Today I want to share with you all a selection of photographs I took around Woolsthorpe Manor, near Grantham, Lincolnshire - in England 🇬🇧
The farm house of Isaac Newton and his tree.

All photographs are taken 31 December 2016 on my iPhone 5s at that time.

The location of the tree and his house you can find on Google maps here, see the yellow star ⭐️ :

Zooming in:

Address: Woolsthorpe Manor House, Water Ln, Grantham NG33 5PD, United Kingdom

More information about the farmhouse you can find Here in Wikipedia!

It States:
”Woolsthorpe Manor in Woolsthorpe-by-Colsterworth, near Grantham, Lincolnshire, England, is the birthplace and was the family home of Sir Isaac Newton. He was born there on 25 December 1642 (old calendar).
At that time, it was a yeoman's farmstead, principally rearing sheep.

Newton returned here in 1666 when Cambridge University closed due to the plague, and here, he performed many of his most famous experiments, most notably his work on light and optics. This is also said to be the site where Newton, observing an apple fall from a tree, was inspired to formulate his law of universal gravitation.”

”Isaac Newton recounted to his contemporary William Stukeley how an apple tree in the orchard inspired him to work on his law of universal gravitation.
Dendrochronology confirms one of the trees in the orchard to be over 400 years old, having regrown from roots surviving from a tree which blew down in 1820. It is attended by gardeners, secured with a fence, and cared for by National Trust for Places of Historic Interest or Natural Beauty.”

Let me show you the house and the tree now.

The Farmhouse.

Another angle.

Walking further around it…

You just see how old it is.

The orchard with other trees.

And the famous tree that is over 400 years old and inspired Sir Isaac Newton.

A plaque next to it:

It was so fascinating to wander around here. And know he walk these grounds…. 😁
We also entered the house and saw how they lived in that time. There is a café to get some warm drinks in the winter months and something to eat. ☕️🍰🥪

In the barn next to it, we could even interact and experiment with some science ourselves. ✨✨⚡️⚡️
Fun for the whole family 😉 even adults liked it… who visited without children.

More information about the house and national trust you find In this website!
Have a look and read, as it is interesting!

Sir Isaac Newton for sure transformed our view at the world! Don’t you think?

I wonder what the tree looks like this time of year with all its leaves and small apples on it. That's assuming that all of it is still alive.

It looks pretty cool with all its leaves and apples, so different than when I was there in the winter yearsss ago. The National trust states it is still alive and well. On their website you do find some photographs in spring and summer. The link is in my post.
Thanks for visiting @kaazoom 😁👋🏻

That is so cool that they made the tree a monument. It is so cool that you can go see this part of history that not many people in the world even know about. Thank you for sharing this with all of us.

It is so cool… just imagine walking there, where Sir Isaac Newton lived and got inspired.
To bad not many know it, but I’m so happy to share information like this with everybody 🤓 we need to share info and experiences… so we all can grow 😉 and keep history alive.
The tree is protected and they do such a good job to keep it alive. Maybe if I’m in the UK again on my travels I go and visit it when the leaves and apples are on the tree 🌳 🍎
Thanks @derangedvisions 😎 have a wonderful day today!

That is cool, and would be so cool seeing an apple on it and falling from it Jackie!

Yes, it sure would be. I have to go back in a better season one day to see the apples on the tree… and not beneath it hahaha 🤣 🍎🍎🍎
Have a great weekend Ed!

You are welcome Jackie, Paris is great, one of my favourite cities:)

Thanks… it is indeed such a great city. Love it! 🥰 we are off the beaten track and exploring other districts. Literally haven’t seen any tourists today hahaha 🤣 in Paris, can you imagine.
😎☀️ enjoy your evening Ed!

Oh I can believe it:) Paris is big and so much to see, down the side streets are the best food and prices even in the centre.

Have an awesome day 👋🏻☀️

There's a tree in one of the Cambridge University colleges which claim to be THE tree as well. I wonder which is the real one 😃

 2 years ago (edited)

Both are real @livinguktaiwan 🤓 I was reading up about it.
This website tells you the story: Click here!

It states: ”Descendants of the original tree can be found in Cambridge and a piece of the original was even loaned by the Royal Society to NASA who took it into space!”

More info on the page, it is interesting, if you have time of course hehe 😉
So both are “the tree” just the one at the university can’t bare apples to eat 🍎

Really? I'll check the website

Cool, thanks @meta007 😎

Interesting!

It sure is interesting @silversaver888 🤓
Have a great day today 👋🏻🤗😊

Beautiful pics of this historic place. Did you see an apple fall? 😀

Thanks so much @heroldius 😎😁
Nope… the tree was bare, but if you look closely… the apples 🍎 were on the ground 🤭😉🍎

On a picture it seems that there are still apples, but maybe it's not on the Newton tree. The fall of an apple from another tree doesn't bring such a great idea 😀

Hahaha I know.
But the apples where also under the Newton tree 😉 but I never saw them “fall”

That tree looks like an overgrown bonsai lol

It almost does @zakludick 😎 it’s pretty cool. I was there in the winter so never saw it with leaves, but bet it looks differently than. 😁🌳

What a lovely trip though! Amazing!

It sure was @zakludick 😁 a bit cold… but all good 😊
Have a great day today 👋🏻☀️

Yeah. I will try. We have Stage 6 load shedding which is just bloody horrible. The power has been off at home for 8 hours of the day.

I have power from 16:30 till 20:00 till the next day again. 😱😱😱😱

OMG crazy… so sorry to hear that @zakludick take care!
I can imagine the struggle. I lived somewhere, and for the first 5 weeks they didn’t turn the electricity on. As they needed checks and put a new meter in etc. I went back every day to complain. But no… they said as it is summer we are allowed to leave you with no electricity for 4 weeks. So I sooooo know.

Wow! That is insane! Even if it is summer! It is not very convenient!
