Well, it happened one day in church.
It was just another day with one of our favourite visiting ministers. Everyone was on their best behaviour, till the incident.
I was in hysterics, and just when I managed to compose myself, my eye would catch a friend's, and off I would go again. Uncontrollable laughter. My friend was shaking from head to toe, sitting quite near the front. Thankfully I was more towards the back, and pretended to be looking for something in my handbag.
What happened to cause such hysterics?
The minister who was preaching that morning was a dignified elderly gentleman. He became very animated about getting his message across, and all eyes were fixated on him. It was a good message and everyone sat listening with intent!
What happened next caused quite a stir, with many bodies shaking in front of us while others were clearly uncomfortable and looked anywhere but at the pulpit!
The dignified old minister stood behind the beautiful gleaming wooden pulpit, getting to the climax of his message, when his dentures suddenly flew across the pulpit!

How and who retrieved the dentures, I have no idea. Someone must have stepped in to rescue the old man and picked them up. Were they rinsed in the glass of water and re-inserted with his back to the congregation, I can't tell you, as I could not compose myself for quite a while, and my head was almost stuck inside my handbag!
The service ended very soon, and there was much talking and giggling as we walked out. The usual greeting at the door did not happen either.
Of course, the stern ones who had forgotten how to laugh, there's always at least one of those who sit in the front row looking very pious but is the judgmental type were not impressed with these disrespectful and ill-mannered people, but I left with a sore belly that day!
This has been my response to Silver Bloggers Chronicles #26 where we are asked:
What’s a time you laughed when you really "shouldn’t" have?
I will never forget that day and still ask myself the question: What is it about laughter - when you're not meant to, it's as if the feel-good hormones are activated and it becomes absolutely impossible to stop the laughter! And can any one of you tell me why laughter is infectious?
One sure thing is that it is the best medicine I know of! But...very uncomfortable when you're not supposed to be laughing!

Oh no!!! Impossible. Wonderful, wonderful story. Poor old gent. I wonder how long it took him to get over the embarrassment.
Best story I've heard in a long time.
It was so totally unexpected, I think his wife would have been even more mortified. She was a very graceful lady, but I'm sure they must have seen the funny side of that. Imagine if his dentures broke in half😅 My brother lost his once when the dog got hold of it😅
I'm glad it gave you a chuckle @agmoore!
One should always approach a pulpit with trepidation, as anything can happen. I also endured some funny moments in the pulpit. And can you believe it, that on my last sermon, before my retirement, I had an excellent message and when I reached the climax of the sermon, Marian's phone started playing a song, a loud song, one we had never heard before. The congregation burst out laughing and of course, there were the normal funny chirps from the congregation. Thankfully, they were a lighthearted bunch and saw the humour in it. Some even gave her advice on how to switch her phone off. In the meantime, she was only trying to take a picture of me because it was the last service. I also laughed when it happened.
Such is life.

Oh my word, I can imagine the shock on Marian's face😅
Shame, and whenever the issue gets mentioned, I avoid it like a plague. 😇
I will soon do a post where a panicked Marian screamed the loudest than I have ever heard her before.

I look forward to that😅
Happy New Year to both of you!
I guarantee that you will also laugh like I did milady. But please don't let her hear you laughing 😘
All of the very best also to you and yours in this New Year.

Hi @lizelle, what a moment! If I'd been there, I would have laughed too. There are situations where laughter is uncontrollable, and no matter how hard I try to calm down, I can't. Once at church, while the pastor was giving his sermon, he swallowed an insect and said it tasted like toasted corn. I couldn't stop laughing and had to leave so as not to make noise and bother the others, who were amazed, while others were laughing in secret.
Happy weekend! 🎅🎄
Oh my word, I would also have found that hilarious @belkyscabrera! Thanks for sharing that😅😅😅

I'll never forget that day and the uncontrollable laughter🤣
If I had been there, I would have laughed too. I think about the dentures flying through the air and I can't stop laughing, hahaha. Thanks for sharing, dear @lizelle . Big hug from Maracay.
It was very difficult not laughing @irvinc😅
Now that is funny. I would have loved to have been there for that one. Thanks for sharing.
It was totally unexpected and of course very difficult not laughing @coinjoe!
It's very hard to control the laugh. Even if you hide your face your body would betray you😁🤣.
That's exactly it, my body must have been shaking like crazy trying to suppress the laughter😅
