Wish I could be as flexible as a cat and able to sleep in any position my heart desires.
You can tell by Poe's current sleeping positions that we're in summer. When it's exceptionally hot and humid, he lies flat on his back, with legs spread-eagled. At other times he lies half on his side with legs gracefully arranged, or tucked up against his body. That last position I still don't understand, but once he's fast asleep the legs flop down.
Very different from the winter sleep when he'll squash himself into the tiniest spaces and make a beeline for his favourite bed, an empty packaging box. It has to be an extremely cold day before he'll tuck himself into his own little fabric bed.
There still are many hot days ahead, so I'm sure Poe is going to give us much entertainment here with his strange sleeping positions!
He only ever exposes his tummy like this when someone he knows is around and will only sleep like this indoors, as a cat's tummy is the most vulnerable part of its body.
What position do you find the most comfortable?
You're allowed to have a chuckle at with me.
When I was a little girl the realization hit one day that there was no escaping death.
My great-grandmother had died, and back then it was the norm to have the coffin open in the living room for all to come and say their goodbyes.
I was horrified and did not want to go back to my Ouma's house while this was happening.
Mom Lily and Dad Malan understood; some of the family frowned upon this silly child!
I can laugh about it now, but I became afraid to sleep on my left side, thinking I'd be putting pressure on my little heart and would die in my sleep! Haha, as if my heart was so fragile😉 And, I did not want to sleep on my back either, as that was what I remembered seeing that day!
Yes, I had, and still have a very vivid imagination, thankfully happier stuff!
Left is Best!
Yes, it is! Much later in life, when I started having reflux issues, I learnt that left is best. It prevents acids from flowing into the esophagus due to the body's anatomy and gravity.
So everyone with reflux (GERD) take note!
There's also less pressure on the organs.
The only thing, as time moves on and the joints start showing wear and tear, you often don't know how to sleep - left, right, back, and even tummy, so it's tossing and turning till day-break when sleep finally overcomes all!
One of the best things I bought myself was a memory foam pillow; no more pillow fighting through the night. The second best was a knee pillow for tucking between my knees to keep my spine aligned .
Poe has no aches and pains, and is wide awake and unperturbed, waiting for breakfast so he can go back to sleep.
What a life, not a care in the world!

Before making any comments, I have to say that I didn't see a sleeping position, I saw a cat king, because he is definitely the king of your home.
Given that I have a herniated disc, I have to sleep on my left side with pillows between my legs. It's the best way I've found to manage my pain. And those memory foam pillows are wonderful, I discovered them a few years ago and they saved my back.
Gosh, I hope it doesn't get worse @lanzjoseg! I have one at my C5-C6, physio seems to be helping, seeing the surgeon this week to report back, I think surgery won't be necessary.
Take care of that spine🙏
I enjoyed reading this!!! I sleep on my stomach, and even if I try to sleep another way, on one side or the other, I cannot. In order to fall asleep, I have to feel my chest against the bed and my hands under the pillow. What I never do is sleep on my back because I have nightmares. I don't know why that happens. In fact, when I have nightmares, in my brain I say: it's a nightmare, I'm on my back; and I wake up and sure enough: I'm on my back. The other thing is that just like your cat, according to the weather, I look for my accommodation: from the cold floor to a warm sofa to sleep on. A hug, @lizelle. Great this publication. I will try to watch those videos.
Hi @nancybriti1, I also used to sleep on my stomach, could not sleep any other way, but now sleep on my left side. Same with nightmares, always on my back when I wake up from one. Weird hey!
Whenever I've had to sleep on my back like after surgery, I always hug a pillow, seems to help.
Have a great weekend Nancy!
I am a cat lover, I have 2 cats and since a year ago I have a small dog. Cats are like more independent and dogs always want you to prepare food for them, hahaha.
My favorite sleeping position is on my back and I have a pillow without so much volume with a design that wraps around your neck. Thank God for years I've been able to sleep very well.
You're very lucky to sleep well @ungranulises, it's vital for one's overall health!
My cat starts meowing when it's mealtimes, but otherwise, he looks after himself, much easier than a dog.
He does look comfy and cool! I bet it is so hard to cool off when you're covered in fur! Ha!
Left is best - interesting. I sleep on my stomach. I used to sleep on my back with my knees in the air - my mom said like a cricket. But in college my roommate was up later than me and had the light on, so I learned to sleep on my stomach to hide from the light. I never changed from the position, even in pregnancy. I had pillows all around and under me and mostly slept on my side/face. Now I use a buckwheat husk pillow I found at the local amazon returns store for cheap. I can get it super thin, so I like it a lot, even if it is noisy and heavy when I move it around!
Yes, cats must get very hot with all that fur, that's the only way he probably cools off a little.
I used to sleep on my stomach till I had a neck op many moons ago, had to sleep on my back afterward till it was healed.
You're very lucky to have an Amazon returns store @apanamamama!
Nice seeing you around <3
Okay, Lizelle you made me laugh at the silly thoughts that we as young children cling to for a very long time. I had similar thoughts after seeing my grandfather laid out. lol Now, as I am older and the bones ache from time to time a pillow between my knees has made a huge difference in sleeping through the night. I am definitely a side sleeper ♥ Glad you're sleeping better too.
I can laugh at myself now, but I remember being hysterical at the thought that I was not going to escape death, so funny now:) Don't even talk of the aches and pains, that pillow trick really works
I hear that! I agree the pillow is awesome. Life changing
I heard sleeping on your back is the best as it's the most natural position (like the dead☠️😀) and it's best for your organs.
They say it's not good for the spine. Haha whenever I'm forced to sleep on my back post surgery, I naturally cross my hands but think of that death pose, grab a pillow and clutch it😅
Que adorable Michi. Me fascina
It always amaze me how can can just sleep in any position. They also nake the weirdest position and can still sleep soundly. I just sometimes wish I am a cat, lol.
Anyways I always sleep on left. But these days I am also sleeping in right, but only for a short time. I still prefer the left side.
Yes, I also wish I was as supple as a cat and sleep as soundly, they look so adorable and innocent when asleep!
I also turn to the other side but not for very long.
Sleeping is like their recharging phase, after that, expect a chaotic moment again with all the running and jumping. Lol 🤭
Lolzz the cat sleeps like he does not have any problem pr responsibly in this world lolzzz😂😂🤣 ohh he really does not but we humans do so we cant sleep like that without thinking about bills to pay
Haha @fredaig, we humans tend to overthink instead of just switching off, but then we're human, right?
They really have a good life - sleep, eat, play, hunt, and back to sleep again :)
Cats and kids are living their lives
Your cat reminds me of mine. I always want to feel as liberated as cats do. Never a care in the world. Right now, I'm not quite certain of how I sleep. I'll be more watchful now.
They do have a carefree life, Poe thinks he's the king of the castle :)
I like to sleep in a fetal position with my hand as a pillow. I would change to a side position when my hands numb or cramps. Poe can sleep peacefully with no worries. 😁😌. Only eat and sleep😬.
Yep, all Poe does is eat, sleep, play, hunt, and back to sleep again ;)
Cats usually sleep in weird position😃maybe they're comfortable. Our cat Poppy always sleep with his belly exposed 😀
I usually sleep on my left side, I'm more comfortable 😍
