The Silverbloggers Chronicles - Prompt #21 - Pastimes / Passions

in Silver Bloggers • 4 days ago

Greetings šŸ™ my dear Hiveans and community members. Happy to be in this platform with another enthusiastic prompt. Click here for details.

What are your favourite pastimes / passions from childhood?

Pomegranate

While in school, in our class timetable, we had an S.U.P.W class once a week. In short, it means productive work. This was applicable for higher secondary and senior secondary. I choose stitching and embroidery. And I loved the teacher and the period very much. She was so kind and patient to all of us.

Hand embroidery was a passion for me. And I remember I embroidered a table cloth, a radio cover, a Television cover, a pillow cover and small things as such.

Once in college I lost this interest. My only interest was reading Nancy Drew novels and Enid Blyton series, from the college library. And here, I loved being surrounded by books which ultimately resulted in becoming a librarian after completing a librarian degree.

Spinach

After marriage all my passion stopped due to lack of time, as I focused only on my profession, house chores and kids education. That was in early 2000.

Later came in a panic alarm covid where we were forced to stay indoors. Both me and my husband lost our job. But this paved way to gardening.

Brinjal

Tomatoes

Our first and foremost priority was to grow vegetables for home purpose. As children were busy with online classes at home, they too joined us.

In the beginning I just assisted my husband, slowly the interest while harvesting grew in me. I was happy to see red tomatoes,,chillies, cucumbers, egg plant, snake guard, bitter guard and spinach (red and green) growing in our own garden.

My happiness doubled when my neighborhood came forward to ask if we were selling them ? It was a great motivation indeed. A work of our choice which we just started to kill time became a passion forcing us to try more new vegetables.

Today I could proudly say, that Iam still planting few vegetables though not as much we did in covid period. I am more involved in flowering plants especially rose and other crotons.

As it is related to nature, this definitely is a beautiful journey. Also, keeping our mind occupied and searching for more new techniques to implement in gardening.

Thankyou for your precious time and patience, in reading my blog. The photos captured are my own from my Samsung Galaxy mobile and few of them are file photos captured during last 2 years.
