My Frightful encounter with Owl

The is a true life story, in Africa are superstitious beliefs towards Owls.

I grew up hearing all sort of story about Owls, witches fly through Owls, something bad will happen following their presence was things associated with Owls growing up and that did a good job at putting fear of Owls in me especially their big eye balls

Being a Chemistry laboratory prefect back in High school I have access to key of the lab and am the punctual type.

One morning I arrived at school early, I was probably the first or second person in school besides the security guard at the gate.

I went into the Chemistry lab, to prepare for the day's experiment. Unknown to me was an Owl staring at me at the conner of the lab, there just just that instinct or whatever it was that made me look the direction of the owl and what I saw was a big owl staring fixedly at me, for a moment I froze, quickly snap out in fear and realizing what was staring at me I ran out of the lab.

By this time was a teacher now in school and one other student, I ran to the teacher, a woman, told her about the owl in the lab, she was scared too 🤣🤣

Scared, we made way to the lab, the Owl had move from the spot I found it, we threw things at it and if flew around towards the door and flew off.

It was a frightening morning recalling that day now. Even as an adult now am still scared of Owls, I haven't seen on in years, I think those eyeballs send a shiver through me 😃

Sort:

oh dear, poor ol' Mr Owl... I am sure he was more afraid of you than you were of him. I'm glad you missed by the way 😂❤️🙏 but isn't it funny how things like this stick with us throughout our lives, having made such an impact on our younger selves. I love owls. When I lived in South Africa, we had a large brown nesting owl that lived in the hollow of our Jacaranda tree outside our front door. He was beautiful. When we had to cut the tree back, we made sure that we cut it back substantially above the hollow so that the nest remained protected. !PIZZA !LOLZ

Lol it is amazing how this thing gets stuck with us and impact the way we react to things like this. It is wonderful to be hearing beautiful stories about Owl here. This sure is leaving a better story fir me to work with when next I see an Owl.
Where in South Africa did you live? I am in Johannesburg, Florida. Where are you now located?

hi I was in Durban... but have lived in the UK since 2001 :-) I enjoyed these owl stories...I didn't think I would find an angle hehe !PIZZA

What a great neighbor you had ♥️ How long did he stay?

!LUV

Owls are also known for wisdom :) Maybe he was there to learn 😂

!PIZZA !ALIVE !LUV

And they are beautiful too. Every predatory bird is beautiful. I am lucky that I am not superstitious. Especially not towards owls, or towards any other bird. I love them.

!PIZZA.

They really are incredible! I love watching them... And how is your beautiful lady ?

Both of us are good. Thank you. Nowadays the temperature outside is very hot (around 38 °C), so we are spending most of these days at home.

Sorry to hear about the hot weather :( It's awful to be stuck indoors!

!PIZZA !ALIVE

These days are probably the hottest days of this summer. But this is still better than the cold in the winters.

At least in winter you can bundle up, and go for a walk!

Lol no it was light outside around 07:00, I was 18 years at the time 😂

Wow… what an experience Joe.
I feel you. All the stories so added to being afraid since a young age than.
Owls are so harmless. Wonderful creatures, very wise too. Like @wrestlingdesires says, known for their wisdom. Fascinating birds.
Thanks for sharing this story with us I could feel it almost 🤓😎🦉🦉🦉

Lol when you grow old being told a story it sticks 🤣, that scary superstitious story about Owls stuck with me lol. Good to be hearing Owls are wise creatures actually, interesting.

I know… those things just stay with you. Forever hahaha 🤣
Maybe hearing that they are not that bad and wise creatures, eases a bit the scary bit 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻😁😎
I hope

It does now that am getting another perspective story about them I won't be on the run when next I see an Owl

Yay 😁 🤞🏻🤩 good to hear!

Harmless? Check the post I got the image from 🤣

I know… but don’t tell Joe that 😉 they were just protecting their nest and babies. If you don’t threaten them, they won’t attack you.

Never came across a dangerous owl. They are cute ☺️

Very true ♥️ I still wouldn't want to scare one, especially a large adult :)

Nope, better not too 😎

!PIZZA

I think seeing an owl up close would scare me too. I love owls, but they're powerful predators with huge claws so, yep, I'd be scared.

Lol, am not alone on this, up close can be scary though my fear will probably ease if an with someone that has experience with them.

Calm would be better - you wouldn't want to scare one in a small room 😲
