Cormorants in Madrid

Perhaps it is true, after all, that advertising slogan that says: from Madrid to Heaven.

And it is that Madrid, with or without coronavirus, is a happy and above all open city, which always receives with open arms all those who visit us, regardless of class and condition.

Perhaps for this reason, lately we are pleasantly surprised by the presence, in our parks and gardens, of a series of very special birds, whose natural habitat is the coast and the sea.

Such is the case, for example, of several pairs of elegant cormorants, who have adapted to live in our emblematic Retiro Park, and whom we try to appreciate and care for with affection, knowing that as humans, we are partly responsible for their forced exile.

But an exile, after all, which also makes our eyes happy, gratifies us with its beauty and induces us to persevere in the idea of a better and cleaner world, where all beings have their place and their opportunity to develop freely.

They must find a good food supply at your lake! Wonderful photos of these marvelous cormorants!

Well, I would not know what to tell you, since in that lake and the nearby pond, there are only carps, which can precisely be said to be the descendants of those that Hitler gave Franco and I do not think they are very attractive. The same thing is happening with cormorants as with seagulls: we are destroying their natural habitats and they are flying inland looking for food, in many cases feeding on landfills. People, like families of ducks, usually give them bread and some things, which I suppose must also be modifying their eating habits. It is a pity to see, in any case, what our environmental aggressiveness is doing with many species. Thank you very much for your comment, friend @ melinda010100 and a warm greeting

I was looking up what they eat, and found that besides fish they also eat insects, amphibians and crustaceans. I came upon this extremely detailed bit of info about cormorants
https://ec.europa.eu/environment/nature/cormorants/faq.htm

Sorry, dear @ melinda010100, I missed your comment. The truth is that you leave me surprised, because I did not imagine that there were also insects and amphibians in their diet. I take note of the data. But there is also one thing that surprises me greatly: its ability to cling to tree branches, like eagles, considering its webbed feet. I find them really curious and fascinating birds. Thank you very much for the information and a warm greeting

They are fascinating birds, aren't they? I learned a lot from that source of info.

And me too, dear @ melinda010100. Thank you very much
