South Africa has 989 bird species and here's a few.
This is a Widow bird (Euplectes progene) called a "Flap" by the locals.
I dived into my files as we are dodging power cuts and hope that you will enjoy the photos.
Note that I might have posted some of the photos before, but I don't have the luxury of time today.
Here we have a Three banded Plover (Charadrius tricollaris)
This is what the locals call the "Go away bird" due to its call, but it is a Loerie and they have classified it in a weird section of our bird book namely Turacos.
The grey go-away-bird (Crinifer concolor), also known as grey lourie, grey loerie, or kwêvoël, is a bold and common bird of the southern Afrotropics. They are present in arid to moist, open woodlands and thorn savanna, especially near surface water. They regularly form groups and parties that forage in tree tops, or dust bathe on the ground.
Especially when disturbed, they make their presence known by their characteristically loud and nasal "kweh" or "go-way" calls, with the last syllable typically a descending drawl. Within range, their unique combination of appearance and habits precludes confusion with other bird species.

Then we have a pair of "White-Faced Whistling Ducks"
(Dendrocygna viduata)
A pair of young "Yellow Crowned Bishops" (Euplectes afer)
Finally a non breeding young, non breeding male called a "Yellow Bishop" (Euplectes capensis)
And there you have it, a sample of some of our birds over here. We have to watch and pray that a new urgent power cut notice does not pop up, as then I will have only 5 minutes to shut everything down.
But for now we are on the go and I might even complete all of my replies.

I don't know what fips is, but lying is almost always the wrong way. I said almost because sometimes it migh tbe better to don't say the whole truth if there's a good reason.

A fib is a lie my friend and people use a variety of slang words to avoid saying that they lied.
Agreed, but only if the lie was not meant to hurt, but rather to help another human being.
So as for example guy thinks that his girlfriend is rotund. She puts on a tight new jeans and asks him how does it look? So he lies and says that it looks fabulous.
So you see? The lie here was meant as a compliment to build the other one up 🤣
Another example: A man arrives home drunk and his wife asks him how many glasses of beer he had.
The man said that he only had 4 glasses and he didn't feel well so he rather came home to the beloved arms of his beautiful wife.
She is happy and he is happy knowing that he had 4 bottles of beer and a half bottle of Schnapps to drink 🤣

Yep, not to hurt but to help or avoid sadness... just like in your example, but I'm not sure if I wouldn't smile when I say that she looks fabulous when I see that she even couldn't close the zipper fully up 🤣
Haha, that's exactly what I always have said to my wife when I came home late. She didn't believe me, but she didn't say anything and both of us were happy 🤣

Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful collection. I have had the good fortune of having lived in Jo'burg and Pretoria for my work assignments for over 4 years. I have fond memories of all the wildlife in Kruger and Pilanesberg. I had never seen the 'flap'. Now, thanks to you, I have at least see it :)
