The extreme cold still lingers on here but we are suppose to get some respite tomorrow and get more average temperatures. I'm ready for it, for this -40 Celsius was beginning to get me as we aren't able to get out for our walks. I only step out in early afternoon when the sun is shining on the deck. That's alright though for with this extreme cold more and more birds are finding their way to our feeder. Have a look at the number which were on the maple tree by our deck (excuse the squeaking door but the oil in the hinges thickens when it is this cold) -
Here is some of the fellows in the pine tree. They are the male evening grosbeak with their bright yellow color.

The females have a more muted color as you can see in the photo below -

While the evening grosbeaks have their bright yellow color the male pine grosbeaks have a brilliant red coloring.

The juvenile male pine grosbeak hasn't got it's full feathering of the red plumage as you can see in the photo below -

It wasn't long before the grosbeaks felt secure enough with me on the deck that they began descending on the bird feeder to get that much needed fuel of black oil sunflower seeds.
It seemed the male evening grosbeaks were the more dominant birds at the feeder as you can see in the video below -
Usually the bluejays stay up in the trees when I'm on the deck but I guess this bluejay was hungry enough that he came to join the grosbeaks at the feeder.

And there were a few redpolls huddled in the trees waiting for a turn at the feeder.

I'll leave you with final view of the grosbeaks on the mountain ash tree with the sun shining through the spruce trees. It was interesting for my camera caught a double image of the birds in flight.
Hope you had a beautiful sublime Sunday and Happy Valentines Day to you all!

Great to see them coming out in the snow. Especially the colorful ones that adds life to the place.
My first sublime Sunday in months! Lovely shots of the birds and the doubled birds in flight was cool!
Oh @goldenoakfarm! I'm so happy to hear that and it is so good to see you here - I had been wondering about you - I'm off to check your posts to update myself.
OK, that's cold! I'll think of you when I am complaining that it is -22 degrees Celsius here this morning. It really is pretty amazing that those birds have any energy to be chirping when it is that cold. You got some really great photos of your birds and I hope that it warms up enough so that you are able to go out for your walks again very soon
I always feel in (frozen) Bird Wonderland when opening your posts ! A very cold place is your place, but full of these colored-brave-chirping-despite-the-cold ones... 😊
Thank you very much for such wonderment ! (even more seen from my quite warm place ...😁)
