🦉 The black woodpecker (Dryocopus martius)
📚 Dryocopus (Greek): drys, dendron - tree; kopos, koptō - hit
📚 martius (lat.) : warlike, fighting; March
The last photo of this series, from that day. Let me remind you, it was the very beginning of November, and it was already quite cold and frosty, but there was no snow yet.
I saw this woodpecker on the hillside, at first he examined the trees, pecked at them. But apparently he failed and did not find insects inside, so he flew to the rowan bush and began to pick and eat berries.
I love their wild look! They always have such a crazy funny look.😁
With the advent of spring, they are very fond of ruining anthills. They go straight up from above and eat ants. Sometimes, passing by anthills in spring, you can see traces of woodpeckers' beaks.
