MY PANDEMIC STORY

in Nigeria3 years ago

Hello and good day , i'm Edet Emmanuel Asuquo and i'm new to HIVE.

The pandemic had a really tough blow on everyone both positively and negatively i included but then i'm grateful to God for having survived the year.

Here is my pandemic story!

Late january 2020 was when i started hearing about the covid-19, as at then it was not declared a pandemic yet but fast forward to march of the same year WHO declared covid-19 as a pandemic. Still in the same march when i was preparing to write my first semester 500L examination, the minister of education through the NUC advised all schools to shutdown academic activities. Boom my school (University Of Uyo) released a circular that all academic activities has been supended.
Most of my colleagues and friends had travelled back home but i was reluctant in leaving Akwa ibom state for Lagos where my parents resides due to the fact that i was optimistic that sooner than later everything will go back to normal not until it dawn on my me that i can't leave akwa ibom as the federal government then had declared a total lockdown and restricted movement.
From the month of April till July was one of the toughest and longest months of my life, as feeding was becoming hard i could rarely eat a day as things were expensive and the money wasn't forthcoming, i lost weight to the extent i was looking like someone with a disease, but thank to my neighbour then that came through for me.
July after the federal government ease lockdown i ran faster than the speed of light back to lagos. When my mom saw me she cried, but then i was happy i'm home and anyhow things were we will scale through as a family but then God was really faithful.
During August i decided to learn a digital skill, i started learning python programming language to become a machine learning engineer and data scientist. I joined data science Nigeria organisation, participated in the first hackathon and was among those that was invited for the first virtual bootcamp after i came 106 out of over 700 candidate that applied.

Still on that i started building and designing sites using my elder brother laptop as had lost his job then due to the pandemic, i wrote some machine learning programming codes that can be integrated with apps and website.
Below is a link to my github repository

While i was enjoying my programming stride then, the endsar protest came which i participated online but on the long run i lost my phone to thieves as i was apprehended my hoodlums some nights after some police stations were burnt down in lagos losing most of my pictures and files. Since then i haven't been able to get another phone as currently i'm using a friend phone.
In November 23rd had my first birthday celebration with friends and loved ones which i tagged as "Celebration of Life".
In a Nutshell, the year 2020 was bitter sweet. Generally to the world at large it was a period the world included Nigeria and I will never forget as people lost love ones, jobs, economy crashed and a whole lot. Personally 2020 was really challenging for me both postively as i gained a new skill (programming) and negatively as i lost my phone, academic activity delayed, my brother lost his job, stopped programming as the hard drive of the laptop i was using crashed, my sister was operated because she had internal bleeding, the operation cost us alot. But then i'm in 2021 and i can say i was part of those that made it despite the hurdles.

Once again here is my pandemic story....

Thanks for reading.

Hello @eddy1759! This is @traciyork from the @ocd (Original Content Decentralized) curation team. We noticed you shared your first post here on Hive - congratulations and welcome! It would also be awesome if you could do more of an introduction post (maybe even including how you found your way to the blockchain, if you'd like), so our community can get to know you better. For an example of what an intro post is like, you can check out this one by my friend & curation team member -

Keeping Up With the Buzz - My Introduction to the Hive Community.

Speaking of community, we have many different ones here on the blockchain, devoted to all kinds of interests. Here's a link so you can check them all out - Hive Communities

Also, as Hive can sometimes be quite confusing, the newly launched Newbies Guide should be helpful to you, as it is a growing repository of useful and easy to understand posts about how the Hive ecosystem works.

Since you're new, you may run into an RC (Resource Credits) error when trying to comment/post because you don't yet have enough Hive in your account yet. For assistance with a temporary delegation to get you started, be sure to check out the Gift Giver site.

For now, @lovesniper will follow your account and we are looking forward to seeing your expanded intro post. Also, please mention (also known as tagging) @traciyork & @lovesniper in your intro post in order for us to be notified, so we can consider your post for OCD curation. Lastly, feel free to hop into the OCD Discord server if you have any questions!

thanks for the kind words.
