In the days of the Judges, foreign invaders held the tribes of Israel in bondage. Despite this, in the darkest moment the Lord raised up military liberators to drive back the enemy and introduce the people into a period of tranquility.
When Sennacherib led the Assyrian army against Jerusalem, the captivity of Judah seemed inevitable. Humanly speaking, there was no way to stop the invader's irresistible force.
However, the angel of the Lord passed through the camp of the Assyrians at night and struck 185,000 men.
