In my country, Venezuela, it's a tradition for people to start making improvements to their homes as December approaches. For a long time, I've dreamed of building a fence around my garage, but obviously, I haven't had the resources for it. However, I haven't given up hope of doing it someday, and in the meantime, I'm focusing on small repairs that definitely make a difference.
Por lo general en mi país, Venezuela es tradición que las personas comiencen a hacer algunos arreglos en sus casas cuando se acerca diciembre. Desde hace mucho tiempo yo he tenido la ilusión y sobre todo las ganas de poder construir el porque, cercando el garaje, pero obviamente no he contado con los recursos para tal fin, sin embargo no pierdo las esperanzas de poder hacerlo en algún momento, pero mientras tanto me dedico a ir haciendo pequeñas reparaciones que sin lugar a dudas hacen la diferencia.
In this case, I wanted to fix this section. I don't know its official name, but it's part of the facade. Obviously, I still need to waterproof the roof, but for now, I can only do these repairs. As you can see, the passage of time has severely deteriorated this area. The houses in this development are all the same, built with reinforced concrete and a professional-grade plaster finish for a better look. However, the rain, sun, and years have gradually deteriorated this roof until some of the rebar was exposed.
En este caso quise arreglar esta parte, no sé que nombre tiene oficialmente pero forma parte de la fachada, obviamente tengo pendiente impermeabilizar el techo pero por ahora solo puedo hacer estas reparaciones. Como se pueden dar cuenta, el paso del tiempo ha deteriorado muchísimo esta parte. Las casas de esta urbanización son todas iguales, construidas con concreto armado y una cubierta de pasta profesional para un mejor acabado, sin embargo la lluvia, el sol y los años han ido deteriorando esta cubierta hasta que quedaron expuestas algunas cavillas.
The first step I took was to sift the sand, since in my case I've added some stones that I also have as building materials. The sand needs to be as fine as possible. It's tedious work, but the result is well worth it.
El primer paso que hice fue cernir la arena, ya que en mi caso se le han incorporado algunas piedras que también tengo como materiales de construcción. La arena debe quedar lo más fina posible. s un trabajo tedioso pero el resultado vale mucho la pena.

Then I added the cement and water and started mixing using a construction trowel. You have to be very careful at this stage because the mixture shouldn't be too thick or too thin, but rather have the ideal consistency to create a good surface and hide the cracks. It's all about checking the consistency and adding more water or cement as needed.
Luego incorporé el cemento y el agua y comencé a mezclar usando una espátula para construcción. Hay que ser muy cuidadoso en este paso porque la mezcla no debe quedar demasiado densa ni tampoco muy aguada, sino con la consistencia idónea para hacer una buena cubierta y poder así ocultar las grietas. Todo es cuestión de ir analizando la consistencia y añadir más agua o cemento según lo que requiera.

Then I started sweeping the entire surface I would be working on with a broom to get rid of the dust and dirt, and then (following the instructions and advice of a good bricklayer I know) I proceeded to spray the entire surface with water, as it is vitally important that it is damp, I suppose so that the covering adheres more efficiently.
Después comencé a pasar un cepillo de barrer por toda la superficie sobre la cuál trabajaría para deshacerme del polvo y la suciedad, y a continuación (siguiendo las instrucciones y consejos de un buen albañil que conozco) procedí a rociar con agua toda la superficie, ya que es de vital importancia que esté húmeda, supongo que es para que se adhiera de forma más eficiente la cubierta.

So I got to work, took enough cement on a masonry brush (that's what that board I'm adding the product to in the photo is called) and started to splatter the surface, using the spatula, just as I had been advised.
Así que me puse manos a la obra, tomé suficiente cantidad de cemento en un cepillo de albañilería (así se llama esa tabla sobre la cuál estoy añadiendo el producto en la foto) y comencé a salpicar la superficie, usando la espátula, tal como me habían recomendado.

But at first I felt that the process wasn't working, as all the cement was falling off; it was as if the layer I was adding was so thick that it couldn't support it and then it fell off due to gravity, and this was obviously frustrating for me.
Pero al principio sentí que el proceso no estaba funcionando, ya que todo el cemento se caía, era como si la capa que yo estaba añadiendo fuese tan gruesa que no soportaba y entonces caía por cuestiones de gravedad, y esto obviamente me resultaba frustrante.

However, I realized that the solution was to apply a very thin layer of cement and smooth it out with a spatula (especially in the narrower spaces). I worked on the entire area in this way, applying a very thin layer, and when it dried, I added another layer and smoothed the surface again with the spatula. When that dried, I added another layer, and so on until all the gaps and cracks were filled, covering the entire surface.
Sin embargo me di cuenta que la solución estaba en incorporar una capa muy delgadita de cemento e ir emprolijando con la espátula (sobre todo en los espacios más estrechos) y así fui trabajando toda esa zona, con una capa muy delgadita, y cuando se secaba, entonces añadía otra capa más y volvía a la alisar la superficie con la espátula. Cuando se secaba añadía otra capa, y así sucesivamente hasta ir rellenando todos los huecos y grietas, abarcando toda la superficie.

Por último, para darle un acabado más liso y profesional, dejé a un lado la espátula y tomé una esponja, la humedecí y comencé a pasarla por toda la superficie, esto también ayudó a cerrar y alisar una microgrietas que comenzaron a aparecer conforme el cemento se fue secando.

And this is the result so far. I didn't have enough cement to finish the entire surface, but at least I covered a good portion. Now I just need to buy more materials to complete the job, and of course, give it a good coat of paint; that way the house will look much better.
Y este es el resultado hasta ahora. El cemento no me alcanzó para terminar el trabajo en toda la superficie, pero al menos cubrí buena parte. Ya solo me queda adquirir más material para terminar, y desde luego darle una buena mano de pintura, de esta manera la casa tendrá un mejor aspecto.

The truth is, I felt a great sense of satisfaction being able to give back to my home a little of what it has done for us by being our peaceful refuge for so many years (Thank God). A little maintenance is always necessary, and even if you don't have a lot of money for it, with a little ingenuity, practice, and advice, you can make small changes that make a big difference. So, with this thought, I'll say goodbye for now, but not before thanking you all for reading my post.
La verdad es que me quedó una sensación gratificante al poder devolver a mi casa un poco de lo mucho que ella ha hecho por nosotros al ser nuestro refugio de paz durante tantos años (Gracias a Dios). Siempre es necesario hacer un poco de mantenimiento, y aunque no se cuente con mucho dinero para eso, nosotros mismos con un poco de ingenio, practica y asesoramiento podemos hacer pequeños cambios que hagan una gran diferencia. Así que con esta reflexión me despido por ahora, no sin antes agradecer a todos ustedes por leer mi publicación.
