Hola, amigos, ¿cómo la están pasando? Les cuento que esta semana he estado a mil y no he podido sentarme a publicar como me gusta. Estoy adaptándome a la dinámica del regreso a clases de mis hijos y he tenido que hacer varias diligencias que me han mantenido bastante ocupada. Los días se han vuelto una maratón: alistarlos para el colegio, hacer las compras, revisar sus tareas y, entre todo eso, intentar avanzar con mi vida y mis propios proyectos.
Uno de esos proyectos es la construcción de mi porche. Para ponerlos en contexto, yo vivo en un apartamento, pero por suerte estoy en la planta baja y eso me ha permitido tener un porche y un jardín. Este espacio privilegiado lo estoy construyendo por partes, ya que el constante aumento de los materiales hace difícil avanzar todo de una vez. Es un desafío para el presupuesto, lo que me ha obligado a ser creativa y a dividir el trabajo en etapas manejables.
La primera etapa fue ampliar el lavandero, un espacio que, con el tiempo, se convertiría en mi entrada independiente. Fue un trabajo minucioso, pero valió la pena para tener una base sólida. Después de eso, vino lo más emocionante: construimos la puerta y abrimos la entrada principal, a la que luego le añadí un pequeño techo para protegerla de la lluvia y el sol. Estaba tan feliz porque la puerta era exactamente como la quería, de esas que tienen una pequeña ventana arriba que se abre, ideal para dejar pasar el aire y la luz. La satisfacción de ver esa idea materializada fue inmensa.
Hello, friends, how are you doing? I have to tell you that this week I've been running around like crazy and haven't been able to sit down and post as much as I'd like. I'm adjusting to my kids going back to school and have had to run several errands that have kept me pretty busy. The days have become a marathon: getting them ready for school, shopping, checking their homework, and, in between all that, trying to move forward with my life and my own projects. One of those projects is building my porch. To give you some context, I live in an apartment, but luckily I'm on the ground floor, which has allowed me to have a porch and a garden. I'm building this privileged space in stages, as the constant increase in the cost of materials makes it difficult to do everything at once. It's a challenge for the budget, which has forced me to be creative and divide the work into manageable stages. The first stage was to expand the laundry room, a space that would eventually become my separate entrance. It was meticulous work, but it was worth it to have a solid foundation. After that came the most exciting part: we built the door and opened the main entrance, to which I later added a small roof to protect it from the rain and sun. I was so happy because the door was exactly how I wanted it, with a small window at the top that opens, ideal for letting in air and light. The satisfaction of seeing that idea come to fruition was immense.
Luego, le echamos un piso rústico al área exterior para darle un toque más natural. Pero con el tiempo, nos dimos cuenta de que el tema de las palomas del edificio se había vuelto un problema. El piso rústico era muy difícil de limpiar, así que decidimos ponerle un piso pulido en la mitad. Quedó pendiente terminar el resto, pero justo en ese momento, una situación inesperada me obligó a adelantar la construcción del techo del porche, algo que aún no estaba en mi presupuesto. Fue un gasto imprevisto, pero necesario.
Así que este nuevo proyecto también lo he dividido en etapas. Lo primero que hicimos fue la estructura que sostendrá el techo. La persona que me está ayudando con el trabajo, además, trabaja en una escuela, por lo que solo puede dedicarle tiempo los fines de semana. Es una realidad con la que he tenido que aprender a ser paciente. En un solo día, montó la base, y hoy, le soldó los tubos internos que aguantarán los ganchos que sujetan el techo. Ver cómo avanza poco a poco me llena de alegría y entusiasmo, a pesar de los obstáculos.
Then, we laid rustic flooring in the outdoor area to give it a more natural feel. But over time, we realized that the pigeons in the building had become a problem. The rustic flooring was very difficult to clean, so we decided to lay polished flooring in half of the area. The rest was left unfinished, but just then, an unexpected situation forced me to move up the construction of the porch roof, something that was not yet in my budget. It was an unforeseen but necessary expense.
So I have also divided this new project into stages. The first thing we did was build the structure that will support the roof. The person who is helping me with the work also works at a school, so he can only devote time to it on weekends. It's a reality I've had to learn to be patient with. In a single day, he assembled the base, and today, he welded the internal tubes that will hold the hooks that secure the roof. Seeing how it is progressing little by little fills me with joy and enthusiasm, despite the obstacles.
Todas estas actividades, junto con las responsabilidades escolares, me han tenido tan ocupada que esta semana no pude ir a entrenar. Me gustaría que el proyecto avanzara más rápido, pero he aprendido que hay cosas que no dependen de nosotros. Debemos adaptarnos al cronograma que el día nos imponga, reorganizar y seguir adelante.
Pronto les compartiré el resultado final de este proyecto de construcción que me ha mantenido tan ocupada, pero también muy entusiasmada. Ya quiero mostrarles el porche terminado, un espacio que he soñado por mucho tiempo y que se está convirtiendo en realidad.
All these activities, along with school responsibilities, have kept me so busy that I couldn't go to training this week. I would like the project to move faster, but I have learned that there are things that are beyond our control. We must adapt to the schedule that the day imposes on us, reorganize, and move forward.
Soon I will share with you the final result of this construction project that has kept me so busy, but also very excited. I can't wait to show you the finished porch, a space I have dreamed of for a long time and that is now becoming a reality.
