An evening of biblical winds!

in Lightpainters United3 years ago (edited)

I recently took a shot break down in Cornwall optimistically thinking I would be out in the dark every night with a camera shooting clear skies and Milky Way scenes. Nothing quite prepared me for the biblical winds coming directly off the sea.

I made my way on the first evening to Wheal Coates, an abandoned tin mine thinking it was a little breezy but not to worry, it'll soon die down. I recce'd the location and took a few camera phone shots thinking the wind has GOT to die down eventually! So once I found a composition I liked, I set about tactically placing my pre-gelled Godox AD200's within the mine thinking again this wind has GOT to die down!

No such luck. The wind just kept on coming and I was literally swept off my feet a few times. Most of the long exposure shots I got were blurry even using "short" long exposures of a couple of seconds.

Eventually, after 3 and half breezy hours, I gave up and settled for this shot. It's never going to win any awards but it'll have to do!

Oh yeah, not forgetting the winds can get rather bad in Cornwall, had first hand experience of it, you were lucky it was just wind, as when it rains, it really rains down there lol

I must have been lucky with the wind. I've been going down here since 1990 and never experienced that much wind for days on end lol!

Woah that sounds interesting, I wonder what it was.

Excellent shot mate. Love how the clouds kind of frame the shot too.

Cheers pal, it's not my best ever shot. I was all set for doing a 2 hour star trail with an external power pack and all the gear, just couldn't get the damn camera to keep still! There's always September to look forward to!

Also shortly before this I witnessed an approaching hazy ball of light approaching and it wasn't on FR24 or the military radar app. As it flew overhead I saw something like a light sabre alongside. I'm assuming it was one of Elon Musk's space junk satellites lol
