RGB Man - The Creeper, Castles and The Fire Elemental

in Lightpainters United2 years ago (edited)

Hi Ho Hiveans,
Lucky to have had some spare time this weekend to get out for a Light Painting adventure. As all nocturnal photographers will know, it's a challenge at this time of year to create Light Painted images in the open air, as it doesn't get fully dark until 11pm! The session can turn into a very late night or I might say very early morning! Arriving home at 4.30am has me trying to make it through the next day without falling asleep. All good fun.

Steps To Sherborn Old Castle

Sherborne Old Castle is a 12th-century castle built by the Bishop of Salisbury. The castle was later seized by the Crown and was briefly the home of Sir Walter Raleigh. The castle was besieged by Parliament during the Civil War and subsequently slighted to prevent further use.
These 3 images were shot at our 1st visit to these brilliant ruins and as you will see we weren't too worried about being seen. However, I visited a few years later with Phill Fisher and was told to "get the fuck out" by the local farmer who marched us off the site never to return.

As I mentioned, we weren't very discreet during our 1st visit, I'm surprised we weren't caught that time. Love spinning wire wool but it does get a little boring unless you have a friend with mild pyromania, then it gets exciting!

Another addition to the RGB Man series of shots. As we always do quick recce of the location before jumping into a shot and saw this opening through another opening, after playing around trying to scare each other for 10 minutes we set up this simple shot using a red filtered torch and an RGB strip attached to a stick.

North Gate Spin - Lulworth

The North Lodges on the Lulworth Castle Estate are Listed Grade II and date to 1785. These ornate structures mark the northern entrance to the park formerly associated with Lulworth Castle. It comprises two lodges of two-storeys, which flank a main gateway. The structures are all ashlar faced, with brick backing. The two lodges are each triangular in plan, with a rounded turret at each corner. The site can be visited after the castle attraction has closed as the structure is on an easy to access path.
A messy random faff with a home-made RGB orb spinner was used in this shot, along with some very enthusiastic wire wool spinning over the other side of the gate and tried to light through the windows of the lodge. Its a very large space and was a very damp night. I found it difficult to think of something to fill the space and my feet were already soaked from the long wet grass.

Clare Towers is also on the Lulworth Estate and is a gateway built of carstone rubble and brick, and is probably contemporary with the park wall, of the late 18th century. It consists of an entrance archway, flanked by round towers which are entered through doorways with two-centred brick openings. The towers are roofless and the brick parapets and upper parts of the walls are ruinous. Many visits to this location over the past 6 years and has always been a chilled time.

Shine Your Light

Thanks for your interest, I am enjoying looking back at my old images and I hope you have too and if it helps to add to a grand idea in your own creative mind, then that's a bonus.

WHAT IS LIGHTPAINTING?
Lightpainting is a photographic technique in which exposures are made by moving a hand-held light source while taking a long exposure photograph, either to illuminate a subject or to shine a point of light directly at the camera, or by moving the camera itself during exposure. Nothing is added or removed in post processing.

Dear @lacelight, we need your help!

The Hivebuzz proposal already got important support from the community. However, it lost its funding a few days ago when the HBD stabilizer proposal rose above it.

May we ask you to support it so our team can continue its work?

WoW!! How did you created Man-Fire Elemental? I mean is this a single shot?
It requires at least 15 minutes for the star trail... 🤔🤔🤔

Hi, yes it's a single long exposure. I used a loose cloth over an orange led strip and waved it behind my friend for a couple of minutes then we both moved and I lit around the towers with a white light then stood back at the camera for another 10 minutes to let the stars burn in. 👍
