There's a growing concern that the push for renewable energy, particularly solar panels, could be linked to forced labour. A large portion of the polysilicon used in solar panels comes from China's Xinjiang region, where Uyghur Muslims have been forced into labour. This has sparked a debate in the UK, with some MPs pushing to ensure that public funds aren’t used to buy solar panels tied to modern slavery.
Energy Secretary Ed Miliband’s plan to install solar panels in UK schools and hospitals is facing criticism. Critics argue that it’s wrong to rely on these panels if they come from forced labour and that it’s unethical to trade one form of exploitation for another.

Man, this is such a messed up situation. Solar energy is supposed to be about a better future, but if it's built on forced labor, that’s just trading one problem for another. We need clean energy and clean ethics
That is true.
