Basso won Targa Florio 2021

in Rally3 years ago

Hi, friends!

It's so unbelievable to see national rally in Italy shorter then 100km. But that's true, this year's Targa Florio had only 92km of competitive special stages.

Organizers of Italian Rally Championship have a Facebook page where they put all the live streams from their national rallies and I must admit that it is something every national championship should have.

But that's not that easy because they combined the chopper camera with onboard videos plus interviews at the end of special stages. All in all, it's made very professional, on the half way to WRC plus which you have to pay every month 8.99€.

I wrote yesterday that young lad Damiano De Tommaso led the rally after short super special stage but today was the real battle. Someone was missing and I am talking about current Italian champion Andrea Crugnola who's engine blown on yesterday's shakedown.

OK, Crugnola (Hyundai) will have his special outing with Hyundai works squad at WRC Rally Sardinia in June so that will make his mood better for sure.

After first few stages, all five top drivers were in 10s but then mental approach distant winners from the rest. And I am talking about big battle between triple Italian champ and double European Rally Champ Giandomenico Basso (Škoda) and Craig Breen (Hyundai).

Basso won by 2.4s and that's his win at Targa Florio. De Tommaso (Cittoen) finishd 3rd overall, and yesterday's 2nd placed driver Tommaso Ciuffi (Škoda) finished 4th overall. Toto Riollo finished 5th overall in his Volkswagen Polo R5.

Great stuff...
