FINDING MY PATH AS A MAN - (notes to self)

Life's journey can be long and winding that we might lose sight of which steps to take to get to our desired destination, sometimes when I take a look in the mirror I sense that uncertainty that the future holds.

Even though I'm not totally sure what exactly the future hold, I remember vividly where I came from and trials I've faced in the past which gives me a grateful sentiment.

Manhood can be unique to each man out there but there are a couple of common manhood archetypes according to philosophers/psychiatrists:

  • The KING
  • THE Warrior
  • The Wise
  • The LOVER

THE WARRIOR

At the end of the day every man wants to be KING of his own, but taking a bit of self-reflection, I figured that I'm currently in the warrior frame of mind cause life has been quite the challenge, although there is progress being made, each time I overcome a challenge I look ahead and see another mountain I have to climb.

This warrior frame of mind is important for every man out there, even for those who eventually become kings were once fierce warriors in life and they can put on the gauntlet when situations arise.

In society, there are many factors that aim to kill this warrior spirit in men as a whole, It is important to be cognitive of these elements so as not to fall prey and suffer the consequences.

In the modern society, there are lots of influences that tell men to man-down, being in the warrior state of mind could put one at odds with what is considered the norm which tells men to be more vulnerable and less stoic.

This route could create a breed of men that become lost with no purpose or bringing any value to the world, a whole generation addicted to consumerism culture, that is why a lot of men give up when they can't get what they want in society.

The warrior frame of mind helped me survive the darkest moments of my life, I've had to put on my big boy pant, get my hands dirty. I've worked a long line of odd-jobs(construction, carpentry, woodworking, delivery, etc) these experiences gave me lots of stories to tell, maybe to my kids one day. these experiences put some calluses on my hands, they built my character.

Now I'm in a fairly better place, I've got a studio-crib all to myself, no longer sharing an apartment with a bunch of dudes 😂... I'm thriving.

Although living alone could take some getting use to... every man needs a stage in life by being alone, the peace and quiet would encourage a lot of creative energy.

THE WISE - A MAN OF VALUE

This is the next phase of life that I currently aim to attain, It might seem like an endless learning phase but I'm loving every moment of it. this is what drives my current endeavors with game development and digital art.

I want to use my knowledge to build something and I know that I surely will.

THE ALCHEMY OF LIFE

Pursuing the archetype of "THE WISE" also led me to discover alchemy as a philosophy. In ancient times, alchemy was purely an art performed by mixing potions, transmuting base metals into Gold and Silver, it was a deeply scientific approach that attracted even the likes of Isaac Newton.

In modern philosophy, Alchemy is a way of life that involves transmuting your human experience, taking all the stones and broken pieces of bricks in your life, and building a castle out of it, become the KING of your castle.

The more experiences you have the more building materials you get to work with to create the desired future.

That is why I'm proud of the experiences I've had, good or bad, It makes me who I am today.

Hard times makes strong men...

Ah... yes the Hero's journey, Thanks for the reminder. I know of the Hero's journey philosophy but I haven't read that book you recommended, I would be sure to check it out.

I could also see such a similar theme in Star Wars, incredible...

Yeah. that is one thing about life, we've all got to keep learning, sometimes I get impatient, I just want to learn all my lessons at once and move to the next thing, but it's got to be one step at a time or I fall.

Thanks for your thoughtful comment.

Wow... Amazing, I also have had some sort of sojourn experiences, although it was not nomadic as yours, It had to do with Economic Immigration, I left Nigeria to Cyprus then Turkey. faced many trials along the way and still do on occasions but I keep pushing.

I would definitely be listening and learning from your odyssey channel thanks for sharing.

(edit) I just listened to it in whole and damn what a journey, I hope one day to be able to narrate my own tales as eloquently as you did. well done sir.

Yes, Indeed that is my plan.

You are welcome, sir...
