Today after running I realized something interesting, but to explain it, I have to first go back a few weeks ago when during a walk outside, I found 30 euros on the ground.
I saw the money, stopped, I took them from the ground pretty happy with the quick gain. I even remember saying to myself, "oh, nice free money" -and then forgot about it.
Today, as I was coming back from running, I saw something on the street that looked like money. Although it was not real money, what I realized is that today -even if it would be real money- I would not have picked it up.
And I said to myself, that's interesting. What changed? Because the value of money didn't. Except for the inflation, those who roughly be the same money, the same amount of value that I would get for free. Why wouldn't I pick up free money today? Am I already that rich? I don't think so. So if the value of money didn't change, if my finances didn't improve. What was different?
It was my state and how I felt, running makes me feel different.
Usually, I feel more aggressive, in the zone, in control, calm, cool, and collected, but I didn't know my state would change so radically that I would just refuse free money. Damn!
And now thinking about it, ignoring the imaginary loss, I would rather be in a state where I do the right things or at least better things.
You see, picking up the free money the first time, was not necessarily wrong, but I'm sure that somebody else needed them more than I did, or maybe the owner would have found them.
Simply put, today I would have made a better decision. Same situation, same person, different action.
But if you feel different, are you the same person? It depends on how you define a person. Is it by the name or is it by their actions?
We often allow ourselves to be in states that make us do shitty things.
And so if you want to change the world, change the state you spend your most time in.
Your state is not just how you feel, but also what you do, and eventually who you become as a person.
And so to choose better states, choose better habits. To be better, do better.
