The Dream Leaping Dispatch

Every day as part of my commitment to personal development, I spend some time in mental wellness land. I peruse an entry from The Daily Stoic, spend some time with insights from other humans whom I admire (right now I am working my way through Tribe Of Mentors by Tim Ferriss, read a chapter from a book concerning behavioral modification and/or subconsciousness training, and finally listen to a little mindful podcast.

I do this every day. Because you know what? I am excited about seizing the day! Life is a glorious marathon for me, and athletes, they train. My morning mindful routine is all about doing the work, the work to better live!

We are here for such a brief time, soon to be forgotten, blown away with the detritus that encompasses the passing of time. Instead of being plagued by angst over that truth, we should live every moment mindful of our brief stay here.

Which leads me to dreams. We all have them. I am sure there are some of you out there like me, who like lots of things but didn't really know what your dream was because you buried you beneath the people pleasing chameleon part that you have played to navigate this life.

Well, all of my training, all of the work I have put in has helped me to strip away that conditioning and help me to realize what my dreams are. We live in an age where there are so many tools to help us self-actualize and train away the bad habits and self-limiting false beliefs that we adhere too. Those impressions, those thoughts only serve to hold us back, to keep us from our dreams.

That's right, I said it, the only person holding you back from your dreams is you.

How do I know this? Because I am living proof of it. We are wired to seek comfort and familiar patterns. I'm terrible about this because I seek out peace. But you know what? Discomfort and intense persistence are what achieved dreams are made of, not sitting on the couch saying, "I wish I could do that?" or "I always wanted to do that, but..."

No.

If you have a dream, just leap! Work through what works and what doesn't with an attitude of humility and determination to learn along the way. It's okay to be scared, embrace the discomfort, don't lounge on the procrastination bean bag!

Leave the procrastinating to Pickles!

I recently read in Mel Robbins' most excellent new book, The High Five Habit, "Your inaction is torturing you." Dang right it is! We'll always find an excuse to not do something, especially if that excuse is fomented out of fear and self-doubt. Things happen in life whether we do what we dream or not, so why not do the work toward your dream and learn to flip whatever comes at you in a way that helps you to learn and grow along the way.

Today, my life got flipped completely upside down. Yes, I am a bit scared, a bit uncomfortable, but the flippening is me getting offered what I have been training myself for, my dream, and I am going all in my friends, hard. And I hope that you all striving towards your dreams too, you'll always have a source of encouragement here from this Kat!

And as always, all of the images in this post were taken on the author's probably not as pumped and fired up as its owner is iPhone.

Your opening lines were rather depressing. True but depressing ..... ah but then I saw the alligator grip and it all made sense! Have you been held hostile by a reptilian tribe? Are they making you say strange things? Do you need the little worker bees to fly to your rescue?

Yes life is brief - but I love what you say about the discomfort that must come with seizing your dream! I just hope yours doesn't involve been a crocodile queen!

Ha haha! Rest easy my friend, I have not gotten caught in the grips of a gator cult, but now that I think of it, that would be quite a story, and if I ever write up such a romp, you will totally get a hat tip!:)

That said, if I start growing scales I might inquire regarding your super excellent oxymel crafting skills!😁

And I just ran away screaming!!

🤣🤣🤣🐊

Soooo, when do we find out what you are up to???

LOL! As things progress I will definitely be more forthcoming, right now things are just a bit up in the air/coming together, but I was so excited that I just had to share the whole encouragement/take the dang dream leap insights I had with everyone.

On another note, it is absolutely pouring here, like my whole farm is one big puddle on top of ice and snow pack. In a day we went from freezing to sopping wet, I hope it's a sight less soggy over your way!

!PIZZA

Yes, much less as in still frozen... No warming until Wednesday.

Now you've got me wondering whether I ever had any big dreams that I didn't pursue. I really don't remember. I don't currently have any big dreams except for some traveling that will have to wait until the world becomes sane again. Which might never happen. In which case, I will need to alter my travel dreams a bit. Meanwhile, I'll be happy to lie in the sun with Pickles.

You know what, I just read something this morning that said if you don't know what your dreams are you might need a coach or a therapist. This hit me pretty hard. For so long I didn't know what the heck my dreams were or if I even had any and a lot of it was I buried me because I was playing the role expected of me. This just continued into adulthood.

Oof, I just word vomited there. But I literally just finished reading about this and your reply was right in the cusp of all this growth introspection.

Speaking of travel, it was my goal to travel the world once the kids launched as I will be a blistering 43 years old when they are grown. Then the world decided to fall apart! If things ever straighten out a bit perhaps we can both wander a bit:)

And lying in the sun with Pickles is always a nice diversion😊

I like your travel idea! I need somebody much younger than I am to do most of the driving nowadays. LOL
But I wonder: at my age, what is there to dream about, really, except aging gracefully and avoiding any activities that might hurt?

I actually just got back from physically pursuing my dream. I am going to build one last home in Virginia on lot I bought on Smith Mountain Lake - or die trying as they say. It is a multi year dream, but that can be fun too. I am optimistic this can all come together, but I am realistic enough to enjoy the adventure just it case it ends up that I do in fact die trying. Not to be too cliché, but I really do believe in enjoying the journey and not just the destination.

Ooh! House building is a task and a half! That is so cool! It sounds like a beyond rewarding project though, I totally believe you'll get it done and get to enjoy the process. That didn't sound cliche at all😊
