GROOMED CONFIDENCE

As I woke up this morning, I noticed how I struggled to wake up at the time I had planned to. I tried to tell myself that it’s fine to go back to sleep since it’s still quite early, but then I wanted to teach myself how to build confidence in myself. I think one of the best ways to do that is to keep to the things I plan to do when I plan to do them. I thought about that, and I jumped out of bed. Now, I have been able to do some little tasks on my list today, and now I’m crushing another.

Sometimes I see people who are very confident and audacious, and I wonder how they do it. I’m sure they have times when they feel unsure about something, but they never show that to anyone. They speak up without fear, and they value their words too. Just because someone is confident or audacious doesn’t mean they speak up whenever and however. They are always conscious of what they say, but when they are sure, they speak up without fear or favor. These are some of the things I have noticed about those who are confident in themselves, and I believe it is not something that anyone is born with. It is groomed.

It is easy for us to say someone is born with that confidence or boldness, but that’s not true. Maybe some people are, but most people took time and effort—and even the grace of God—to be the bold and confident people they are today. Our confidence is diminished when we don’t keep to our words, and that’s because we start losing trust in ourselves to even do things we want to do. But the moment we are able to do things at the time we promised ourselves, we start trusting ourselves even better, and that builds confidence over time.

I have come to accept this because I have seen it in myself. On days when I’m able to keep up with all my tasks, I feel more reliable, and my confidence grows. But whenever I start delaying my tasks, I start feeling less reliable and less confident in myself. The reason why confidence can grow in achieving tasks is because you are certain that once you commit your mind to something, you will be able to get it done. And over time, you will be happy with yourself. Even if you make mistakes at some point, it gives you room for more self-improvement, which helps you even more to build yourself in other areas too.

If there is one thing I just want anyone who reads this to remember, it is that you can always be what you want to be and do what you want to do. The question is, will you? If you are scared of making mistakes, you won’t. If you are worried about hurting others or making them talk bad about you, you won’t either. You sometimes have to make mistakes for you to learn and grow, while other times you have to learn from the mistakes of others to grow. Take that one impossible step today and thank yourself later.
