AN UNEXPECTED ALLY

Sometimes you find the best things or people in the least expected way. For me, I found a friend in a very unexpected situation. It all started when I finally made up my mind to take up the JUPEB program. At first, I was really lost and unsure of what to do, where to go and who to meet. None of that made sense to me. Imagine stepping your foot in a new environment for the first time and you are left all alone to navigate through all on your own! I was confused, nervous but hopeful.

That day, I went to see the JUPEB accountant, who I later found out was called Mr Jeff. He was a bit friendly in a stern way. I’m not even sure if that makes sense. That alone gave me more anxiety. Well, I tried to act courageous as I’d mostly do when I’m too overwhelmed by a situation. I saw a few other students in his office too. Some of them already resumed for a while now and there was this particular girl who only started a week before me. She had plans of going to the bank to make some payments and I was there to make inquiries about what and what I’ll be paying for.

He gave me all the details about the payments to be made and for some reasons, the girl was still in his office waiting and I quickly seized that opportunity to ask her if she was going to go to the bank that day and she said yes. I asked her if I could join her so I could get familiar with the road to where the bank was and she agreed. In fact, she asked me for my number just in case I needed to ask any more questions. I remember us parting ways that day with a smile and undeniably relief that I felt.

And that was it. I made a friend on my first official visit to inquire for that program. Thanks to that friendship I made, I was able to navigate through a lot of challenging situations with someone and not on my own. She introduced me to the class representative and also briefed me on how things were done. She told me how far they’ve gone, who to meet for notes and most importantly, where my classroom was. Everything went so well and after a while, I made more amazing friends that were really supportive from the time I met them to the end of my program.

I still talk with her when we see. But not like before and that’s because we got admission into the university to study different courses and our faculties are completely in different locations. She is one of the most supportive friends I have ever had and I’m always grateful to God for sending her to me on my first day. She made so many of my worries nothing because she will always have an answer to my questions. Well, I also became of help to her too in terms of studying and she was also happy too. But it isn’t compared to the so many things she did for me.

This is my entry for the hivestudent prompt on FRIENDSHIP.

Thank you for reading through. 💜

Mehn, friendship made on a mutual and unpredictable manner has a way of lasting till Jesus come, not the one a person will be begging for friendship
