Surviving School.

When I first gained admission into the higher institution, just like every other student had plans and prepared well, I had my own plans and prepared well too. I was only bent on focusing on my studies and nothing more. But along the line, school began to humble me. It got to an extent that I had to reduce the rate at which I attend lectures and such and focus as well on how to survive.

I remember a time like that in school, it was my second year in the higher institution, I had gone so so broke. Like, that kind of brokeness has never happened to me before. I'm the type who loves to stock up my home with food, even if I won't have anything left as pocket money. But that particular semester, everything just went dry, foodstuffs finished too and I was left with only Garri. It was the exam period and well, the exam lasted for a week, and for that whole week, I drank Garri throughout. There are days I drink it four or five times, sometimes just once or twice, all because I couldn't get anything or afford anything else to eat.

And I'm not the type to call home at all times too, but during that time too, I couldn't even call home, calling home would make it feel as if I don't even care or bother about everything going on because home too was in a situation then. And school won't stop because of me, everything kept going and we kept moving with it. I remember the various handouts I couldn't even get, the tests I couldn't go for due to Tfare and all of that.

There's this particular time as well that stood out, it was during my final year. Throughout my time in school, my school fees are always paid early, I mean very early even if I haven't gotten stuff to take along and all, school fees would have been sorted. But my final year proved to be different, I couldn't pay my fees, and there were the project expenses, seminars payments and other things to be sorted out.

Thinking about it all now, those times did stretch me, but they (the experiences) all add up together to teach and build me.

School will humble anyone, expenses always never seems to end. Thank goodness we all survived the hardship.
