DEL CAMPO A LA CIUDAD

Yo soy Baudilio del Carmen Rondón Rodríguez, nací en Guadualito municipio perteneciente al Distrito Páez del Estado Apure en Venezuela, el 20 de mayo del año 1943. Casado con Ana Mireya Parada desde hace 56 años. Dos hijas. La menor ya fallecida y nos dejó dos nietos: un varón y una hembra. Nací en el campo y mi madre fue atendida por un partero empírico pero que para esa fecha ya tenía experiencia en más de 20 partos, todos atendidos exitosamente. Su nombre es Pedro Rivero.

Pedro Rivero fue un campesino que quería estudiar medicina lo cual no pudo por su situación económica. Solo aprendió a leer y escribir. Tuvo la suerte que el patrón dueño del hato donde laboraba le regaló varios libros de medicina y prácticamente se los aprendió de memoria. Estudiaba de noche hasta altas horas alumbrado por una lámpara a base de querosén. Por sus aciertos en los diagnósticos de enfermedades en niños y adultos se convirtió en el médico de la zona. En Guasdualito no había médicos y los enfermos se trasladaban a la población de Arauca en Colombia que era lo que quedaba más cerca. Yo a él le decía padrino.

Cuando yo tenía 12 años cumplidos, mi papá decidió, por insistencia de mi madre, mudarnos para el pueblo para que fuéramos a la escuela. Ya en el pueblo y a esa edad empecé a estudiar primer grado. Cuando estaba cursando segundo grado ocurrió la separación de mis padres y yo me fui con mi madre para el estado Barinas. En esa ciudad viví cuatro años y medio y logré terminar el cuarto grado, el cual cursé de noche porque tuve que salir a trabajar.

DE NUEVO EN GUASDUALITO

Recuerdo que justo cuando terminaba el cuarto grado, me encontré con un amigo de mi padre quien me comunicó que mi papá le había pedido que me buscara y, si yo quería, me regresara a Guasdualito. No lo pensé dos veces y al día siguiente tomamos una avioneta de Barinas a Guasdualito. Fue mi primera experiencia de viajar en avioneta. El viaje me pareció sumamente corto en comparación con la ida a Barinas: duramos dos días viajando en carro.

De nuevo en Guasdualito comencé a estudiar el quinto grado. Todavía recuerdo con mucho cariño y aprecio a mi maestra de quinto grado y a mi maestro de sexto grado. Dos docentes de carácter, pero muy humanos y sabios: la Señora Lucrecia Guerra y Saúl Roa. Ellos todavía perduran en el corazón de sus ex alumnos. Ahora están educando en el cielo.

El máximo nivel educativo que existía en Guasdualito, para esa fecha, era hasta sexto grado. Cuando terminé ese grado en 1961 un profesor de origen extranjero llegó al pueblo a fundar un liceo que llamó Libertador. En ese Liceo cursé primero y segundo año. Al terminar el año escolar apareció en mí el conflicto dónde culminar el bachillerato. Una amiga que estudiaba en la Escuela Normal en Rubio, Estado Táchira, me recomendó que terminara el bachillerato allá, me dijo que es una ciudad estudiantil que además de la Escuela Normal “Gervasio Rubio”, hay un Liceo, una Escuela Agropecuaria y un Centro de Educación Interamericana.

DE GUASDUALITO A RUBIO

Así, un día tome un avión para San Cristóbal, pues como era estación de invierno no había transporte terrestre, sino aéreo. Llegué a Rubio busqué el contacto que me había recomendado mi amiga Beatriz Maldonado. Le entregué todos los documentos requeridos y para los primeros días de octubre del año 1963 ya estaba asistiendo a clases al Liceo Carlos Rangel Lamus con cuatro paisanos que al final decidieron continuar estudios en esa localidad.

Me gradué de bachiller en Humanidades el 31 de julio del año 1966. Como ya estaba casado y con una hija no tenía posibilidades de irme a Mérida u otra ciudad a seguir estudiando. Afortunadamente, la Universidad de Los Andes, con sede en Mérida, Estado Mérida abrió una extensión dependiente de la Facultad de Humanidades y Educación para cursar la licenciatura en educación con dos menciones: evaluación educativa y orientación educativa. Como en mis planes no estaba estudiar ni ser educador me decidí por evaluación. Confieso que cuando hice una suplencia y después las pasantías empecé a sentir que estaba transitando el camino correcto, esa vocación docente empezó a despertarse.

Me gradué de Licenciado en Educación, Mención Evaluación Educativa, el primero de octubre del año 1971, ese mismo mes y año ingresé al Ministerio de Educación como evaluador a Tiempo Completo. En el Ministerio de Educación trabajé durante 10 años y el primero de diciembre del año 1981 ingresé a la Universidad Nacional Experimental del Táchira (UNET) como docente evaluador a Dedicación Exclusiva. En la UNET trabajé durante 22 años y me jubilé el 31 de diciembre del año 2003, en la categoría de Profesor Titular.

AHORA EN LA UNET

En la UNET me desempeñé como evaluador; Coordinador de Admisión, Control de Estudios y Evaluación (CACE), Coordinador del Curso Propedéutico, formé parte de varias comisiones, fui miembro de la Junta Directiva de la Asociación de Profesores (APUNET) durante tres periodos como secretario, tesorero y segundo vicepresidente. Fui representante profesoral al Consejo Académico, fui vicepresidente y después presidente del Consejo de Vigilancia de la Caja de Ahorros de los profesores (CAPROUNET), fui miembro principal de la Junta Directiva de la Asociación de Profesores Jubilados (ASOPJUNET). Fui el primer Decano de Desarrollo Estudiantil durante dos periodos consecutivos.

Para esta fecha tengo 18 años de jubilado, durante este tiempo trabajé en el Decanato de Postgrado en la materia Evaluación Institucional, en el Postgrado de Gerencia Educativa, fui miembro de la Comisión de Postgrado de Gerencia Educativa, fui jurado principal y suplente de varias tesis y, también, tutor de tesis. También me desempeñe, por poco tiempo, Coordinador Académico de Postgrado.

Los cursos de postgrado en Gerencia Educativa no se han vuelto a aperturar por falta de matrícula. Los bajos sueldos de los docentes, insumo principal del ese postgrado, no les permite invertir en su formación.

CAMINANDO HACIA HIVE

En estos días mi hija @belkisrondop me habló de esta plataforma y me convenció de que participara en los cursos que van a dictar recientemente para conocer más acerca de la Comunidad Hive. Confieso que me ha costado entender pero voy a perseverar asumiéndolo como un reto, estimulado por ese espíritu de ayuda que se observa en la Comunidad. Finalmente, quiero agradecer a Natalia Loreto (@laloretoyya) por su interés en enseñarnos a desempeñarnos mejor en esta Comunidad. Gracias, gracias, gracias.

FROM THE COUNTRY TO THE CITY

I’m Baudilio Del Carmen Rondón Rodríguez; I was born in Guadualito municipality belonging to the Páez District of Apure State in Venezuela, on May 20, 1943. Married to Ana Mireya Parada for 56 years. Two daughters. The youngest is deceased and left us two grandchildren: a boy and a girl. I was born in the countryside and my mother was attended by an empirical midwife who by that time already had experience in more than 20 childbirths, all successfully attended. His name is Pedro Rivero.

Pedro Rivero was a farmer who wanted to study medicine, which he could not do because of his economic situation. He only learned to read and write. He was lucky that the owner of the ranch where he worked gave him several medical books and he practically learned them by heart. He studied at night until late hours lit by a kerosene lamp. Due to his success in diagnosing illnesses in children and adults, he became the doctor of the area. In Guasdualito there were no doctors and the sick were transferred to the town of Arauca in Colombia, which was the closest. I used to call him godfather.

When I was 10 years old, my father decided, at my mother's insistence, to move us to town so we could go to school. Once in town and at that age, I began to study first grade. When I was in second grade my parents separated and I left with my mother for the state of Barinas. I lived in that city for four and a half years and managed to finish fourth grade, which I attended at night because I had to go out to work.

AGAIN IN GUASDUALITO

I remember that just when I was finishing the fourth grade, I met a friend of my fathers who told me that my father had asked him to look for me and, if I wanted, to return to Guasdualito. I did not think twice and the next day we took a small plane from Barinas to Guasdualito. It was my first experience of traveling by plane. The trip seemed to me extremely short in comparison with the trip to Barinas: it took us two days traveling by car.

Back in Guasdualito I began to study fifth grade. I still remember with much affection and appreciation my fifth grade teacher and my sixth grade teacher. Two teachers of character, but very human and wise: Mrs. Lucrecia Guerra and Saul Roa. They still live on in the hearts of their former students. Now they are educating in heaven.

The highest educational level that existed in Guasdualito, at that time, was up to sixth grade. When I finished that grade in 1961, a teacher of foreign origin came to the town to found a high school called Libertador. In that high school I studied first and second grade. At the end of that year, I was faced with the conflict of where to finish high school. A friend of mine who was studying in the La Normal en Rubio school, Táchira State, recommended me to finish high school there. She told me that it is a student town and that besides the La Normal “Gervasio Rubio” School there is a High School, an Agricultural School and an Interamerican Education Center.

FROM GUASDUALITO TO RUBIO

So, one day I took a plane to San Cristóbal, since it was the winter season and there was no land transportation, only by air. I arrived in Rubio and looked for the contact that my friend Beatriz Maldonado had recommended me. I gave her all the required documents and by the first days of October 1963 I was already attending classes at the Carlos Rangel Lamus High School with four fellow countrymen who finally decided to continue their studies in that town.

I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Humanities on July 31, 1966. Since I was already married and had a daughter, I had no possibility of going to Merida or any other city to continue my studies. Fortunately, the University of the Andes, based in Merida, Merida State, opened an extension of the Faculty of Humanities and Education to pursue a degree in education with two mentions: educational evaluation and educational guidance. Since I did not plan to study or become an educator, I decided to study evaluation. I confess that when I did a substitute and then the internships I began to feel that I was on the right path, that teaching vocation began to awaken.

I graduated with a degree in Education, mention in Educational Evaluation, on October 1, 1971, and that same month and year I joined the Ministry of Education as a full-time evaluator. I worked at the Ministry of Education for 10 years and on December 1, 1981 I joined the Universidad Nacional Experimental del Táchira (UNET) as a full-time teacher evaluator. I worked at UNET for 22 years and retired on December 31, 2003, in the category of full professor.

NOW AT UNET

At UNET I worked as an evaluator, Coordinator of Admission, Control of Studies and Evaluation (CACE), Coordinator of the Propaedeutic Course, I was part of several commissions; I was a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Professors (APUNET) for three terms as secretary, treasurer and second vice- president. I was a faculty representative to the Academic Council, I was vice- president and then president of the Supervisory Board of the Teachers' Savings Bank (CAPROUNET), I was a principal member of the Board of Directors of the Retired Teachers' Association (ASOPJUNET). I was the first Dean of Student Development for two consecutive terms.

I have been retired for 18 years, during this time I worked in the Postgraduate Dean's Office in the subject Institutional Evaluation, in the Educational Management Postgraduate Program, I was a member of the Educational Management Postgraduate Commission, I was main and alternate jury of several theses and also thesis tutor. I also served, for a short time, as Postgraduate Academic Coordinator.

The graduate courses in Educational Management have not been reopened due to lack of enrollment. The low salaries of teachers, the main input of this postgraduate course, do not allow them to invest in their training.

WALKING TO HIVE

These days my daughter @belkisrondop told me about this platform and convinced me to participate in the courses that they are going to dictate recently to learn more about the Hive Community. I confess that it has been hard for me to understand but I will persevere assuming it as a challenge, stimulated by that spirit of help that is observed in the Community. Finally, I want to thank Natalia Loreto (@laloretoyya) for her interest in teaching us how to perform better in this Community. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
