Tenía mucho tiempo, años, sin viajar a la Isla de Margarita, al Estado Nueva Esparta, Estado que se caracterizado por tener de las mas ricas playas así que para muchos, era un destino fijo en vacaciones. Al principio de las vacaciones jamás me imaginé estar subiendome a una lancha camino a este destino ideal, pues, no estaba en los planes. De pronto, a mediados de febrero recibí una invitación de una de mis amigas más cercanas, Andrea, ella ya se encontraba en La Perla del Caribe. Obviamente al invitarme dije que si, pero sabia que iba un poco más allá de solo aceptar la invitación, tenía que cuadrar toda la logística del viaje. Primeramente, era un Estado al cual tenía mucho tiempo sin ir, lógicamente no recordaba nada, segundo tenía que viajar sola en la lancha, un transporte que no frecuento en absoluto. Estaba muy dispuesta y emocionada por volver a viajar a la isla, también estaba emocionada porque estaría sola, y no lo digo a mal, lo digo en el plan en el que vuelvemos a caer en cuenta que ya estamos creciendo cada vez más.
La fecha básicamente se rodó dos semanas después de la que estuvo planificada previamente, por distintas situaciones, sin embargo, un jueves dije, "si no voy este fin de semana, ya no podré ir".... Me decidí, arme mis maletas, y el viernes en la mañana, súper temprano 6:50 am ya estaba saliendo al terminar de ferry. Ya que no hay tanto movimiento de pasajeros, el pasaje lo podía comprar el mismo días, siempre y cuando fuese una hora antes de la hora de salida establecida.
I had a long time, years, without traveling to Margarita Island, in the state of Nueva Esparta, a state that is characterized by having one of the richest beaches, so for many, it was a fixed vacation destination. At the beginning of the vacation I never imagined I would be getting on a boat on my way to this ideal destination, because it was not in the plans. Suddenly, in mid-February I received an invitation from one of my closest friends, Andrea, who was already in La Perla del Caribe. Obviously when she invited me I said yes, but I knew that it went a little further than just accepting the invitation, I had to work out all the logistics of the trip. First of all, it was a state that I had not been to for a long time, logically I did not remember anything, secondly I had to travel alone in the boat, a transport that I do not frequent at all. I was very willing and excited to travel to the island again, I was also excited because I would be alone, and I don't mean that in a bad way, I mean it in the sense that we are getting older and older.
The date was basically shot two weeks later than previously planned, due to different situations, however, one Thursday I said, "if I don't go this weekend, I won't be able to go anymore".... I made up my mind, packed my bags, and on Friday morning, super early 6:50 am I was already leaving at the end of the ferry. Since there are not so many passengers, I could buy the ticket the same day, as long as it was an hour before the established departure time.
Los planes eran pasar un fin de semana, al menos 4 días de pura playa, así que a la hora de hacer maletas no tenia planeado durar demasiado, simplemente, ropa de verano, shorts, camisetas y varios trajes de baños jejeje. Obviamennte una que otra ropa porsi nos tocaba salir de noche o ir a comer a algun sitio o restaurante.
La compra del boleto fue rapida, mi papá estuvo conmigo acompañandome y explicandome lo que debía hacer. Una vez que lo compramos, solo quedo esperar a la señal de que empezaban a embarcar. Como sólo tenía un bolso, lo podía llevar junto a mi en mi puesto, y así evitaba el de rato largo de espera de las maletas una vez atracado el barco en el puerto de la isla de Margarita.
The plans were to spend a weekend, at least 4 days of pure beach, so when it came to packing I didn't plan to last too long, just summer clothes, shorts, t-shirts and several bathing suits hehehehe. Obviously some clothes in case we had to go out at night or go out to eat somewhere or go to a restaurant.
The purchase of the ticket was fast, my dad was with me accompanying me and explaining me what to do. Once we bought it, all we had to do was wait for the signal to start boarding. As I only had one bag, I could carry it with me in my seat, and so I avoided the long waiting time for the suitcases once the ship docked at the port of Margarita Island.
Pasadas las 7:20 empezamos a embarcar. La lancha salía a las 8 y eran 2 horas de travesía. Una vez que me despedí de mi papá empece a hacer la cola y me subi a la lancha. Para ser mi primera vez, no estaba asustada, me tocó en uno de los puestos de la zona delantera, justo en el medio de tres puestos. A mi lado un señor, y al otro, una chica que llegaba de Colombia e iba a darle una vuelta a su apartamento y reencontrarse con sus amigas. Estuve a gusto, me sentí más bien acompañada.
After 7:20 we started boarding. The boat was leaving at 8:00 and it was a 2 hour crossing. Once I said goodbye to my dad, I started to line up and got on the boat. For my first time, I was not scared, I was in one of the seats in the front area, right in the middle of three seats. Next to me was a man, and on the other, a girl who had just arrived from Colombia and was going to go back to her apartment and meet up with her friends. I was at ease, I felt rather accompanied.
Mis planes siempre habían sido dormir en el camino para evitar marearme, ademas, como me desperté tan temprano no sería tan difícil. A las 7:58 notificaron que ya ibamos a salir, me pareció genial la organización de todos y que fuesen tan puntuales. Empezamos el camino Mar abierto y la verdad no sentía ni el movimiento, no creía que me iba a marear, sin embargo, agarre bien mi cartera y me dispuse a dormir jejejeje. Dormí las dos horas de viaje, fue genial así que no me maree y me desperté justo 10 min antes de llegar al muelle y ya encontrarme en la isla. Sin embargo, al montarme logre tomar algunas fotos desde la ventana y en otros momentos donde abría mis ojos para verificar el viaje y mi alrededor...
My plans had always been to sleep on the way to avoid getting dizzy, besides, since I woke up so early it wouldn't be so difficult. At 7:58 they notified me that we were going to leave, I thought it was great how organized everyone was and that they were so punctual. We started the open sea road and the truth is that I did not even feel the movement, I did not think I was going to get dizzy, however, I grabbed my bag and I was ready to sleep hehehehehe. I slept the two hours of the trip, it was great so I did not get dizzy and I woke up just 10 minutes before arriving at the dock and I was already on the island. However, while riding I managed to take some pictures from the window and in other moments when I opened my eyes to check the trip and my surroundings...
Todo estaba planeado, mi primo me iría a buscar a punta de piedras, y me dejaría en casa de mi amiga Andrea. Así fue, una vez me baje de la lancha, camine y me senté a esperarlo en un cafetin, espere unos 40 min pero mi emoción de encontrarme nuevamente con mi amiga ganaba y no me preocupe. Mientras tanto, observaba a mi alrededor un nuevo entorno.
Mientras estaba en el cafetín lo que podía escuchar eran a los choferes de taxis ofreciendo sus servicios -un poco caros la verdad- de transporte hacia el centro de la ciudad. Y ya saben, usaban su mejor vocabulario para atraer a los turistas. De igual forma, existía un medio de transporte mas económico, el bus. Pude ver también a los margariteños, con su ropa playera del día a día y sus sombreros para protegerse del sol. El calor, sin dudarlo, estaba impresionante. Yo tenía puesto un sueter porque en la lancha hacía bastante frío, y al pasar a penas 10 min en el cafetín tuve que quitarmelo. Logicamente no podían faltar en esa zona el montón de vendedores ambulantes que tenían de todo un poco, desde trajes de baños, sombreros, flotadores y todo lo necesario para el disfrute de la Isla de Margarita.
Everything was planned, my cousin would pick me up at Punta de Piedras and drop me off at my friend Andrea's house. So it was, once I got off the boat, I walked and sat down to wait for him in a cafe, I waited about 40 minutes but my excitement to meet again with my friend won and I did not worry. In the meantime, I was observing a new environment around me.
While I was in the cafe what I could hear were the cab drivers offering their services -a bit expensive to be honest- for transportation to the center of the city. And you know, they used their best vocabulary to attract tourists. Likewise, there was a more economical means of transportation, the bus. I could also see the people of Margarita, with their everyday beach clothes and hats to protect them from the sun. The heat, without a doubt, was impressive. I was wearing a sweater because it was quite cold on the boat, and after only 10 minutes in the cafe I had to take it off. Of course, in that area there were plenty of street vendors with everything from bathing suits, hats, floats and everything you need to enjoy Margarita Island.
Desde donde salen las lanchas a la ciudad como tal es lejos, fácil unos 40 min. En todo el camino me puse al día con mi primo. Hablamos de los sitios que podía visitar, las playas a las que tenía que ir y los sitios que más se frecuentan. Durante todo el camino observaba el verdor que se encontraba a nuestro lado.
Sin duda es un viaje que volvería a repetir!!! y más ahora que ya se como transcurren las cosas y que es lo mejor al viajar sola. Luego de saber afrontar la ida a la Isla, la vuelta fue mucho más sencilla y llevadera y con mucho mas tranquilidad y confianza. Pero debo admitir que lo mejor de la travesía es, como ya les mencioné, la organización y la excelente puntualidad, sinceramente salen a la hora indicada, y el viaje se hace hasta divertido con una película que colocan en el televisor principal del área.

From where the boats leave to the city as such is far, easy about 40 min. All along the way I caught up with my cousin. We talked about the places I could visit, the beaches I had to go to and the most frequented places. All along the way I was observing the greenery next to us.
Without a doubt it is a trip that I would repeat!!! and even more now that I know how things happen and what is the best thing to do when traveling alone. After knowing how to face the trip to the island, the return was much easier and bearable and with much more tranquility and confidence. But I must admit that the best thing about the trip is, as I already mentioned, the organization and the excellent punctuality, sincerely they leave at the appointed time, and the trip is even fun with a movie that they put on the main TV in the area.
