¡Hola Hivers! Espero estén muy bien. Mi nombre es Omar, soy odontólogo y hoy quiero contarles como día a día enfrento las inseguridades en mi trabajo.
En unas semanas cumplo 1 año desde que ingresé a trabajar en un centro de salud pública en el área de odontología. Mis compañeros de trabajo y mi jefa me han tratado excelente y me han ayudado mucho en este camino, la experiencia ha sido muy bonita. Sin embargo la experiencia con los pacientes ha sido en algunos casos bastante difícil. A pesar de que ya tengo casi 1 año, los pacientes me siguen considerando "el nuevo" y tienden a poner en tela de juicio mis aptitudes para ejercer mi trabajo. Esto ha generado Inseguridades en mi, sin embargo las enfrento día a día y demuestro con mi trabajo que estoy capacitado para éste y cualquier otro reto que se me presente.
Atender público siempre va a ser difícil y si es en un centro de salud aún más. En mi trabajo atendemos a cierta cantidad de pacientes bajo previa cita, dejando espacio a estrictas emergencias que puedan llegar a consulta ese día. Sin embargo existen pacientes que quieren saltarse las normas y exigen ser atendidos ese día aún sin tener citas. Hay personas que han llegado a insultar al personal. Son situaciones difíciles y que lidiamos con ellas todos los días. El servicio que nosotros préstamos en este centro es totalmente gratuito a la comunidad pero esto no implica que las personas puedan insultar y matratar al personal. Nunca le hemos negado el servicio a alguien pero las cosas deben hacerse según las normas. Yo atiendo a seres humanos y no voy a realizarles cualquier cosa solo por salir del paso. La odontología no es sacar una muela y ya, está profesion implica muchas cosas y también tiene sus complicaciones.
Uno de los peores errores de los seres humanos es juzgar por la apariencia. Cuando llego a la consulta y los pacientes me ven en la sala de espera se asombran y no creen que yo sea el odontólogo, me ven muy joven y por eso se creen con el derecho a juzgarme y a dudar de mi. Sin embargo cuando están adentro en la consulta y ven que realizó un buen trabajo, rápido y causando la menor molestia al paciente me dan las gracias y hasta me dicen "Dios le bendiga sus manos, no sentí nada". Escuchar esas palabras es una gran satisfacción, es bonito demostrarle a las personas que está mal juzgar sin haber dado una oportunidad.
Siempre los pacientes quieren ser atendidos por odontólogos de mayor edad porque tienen mas "experiencia" sin embargo algunas de estas personas se quedaron con prácticas odontológicas pasadas, con tratamiento algunas veces arcaicos y que en la actualidad están contraindicados. La odontología como la mayoría de ramas de la medicina evolucionan muy rápido, asi que hay que estar en constante preparación y a la vanguardia de materiales odontólogicos, ya que cada día salen productos nuevos. En este centro de salud trabajamos dos odontólogos, mi colega tiene 26 años y yo 25. Somos jóvenes, graduados de la misma universidad privada. Ambos tenemos muchas ganas de trabajar y lo hacemos con mucha responsabilidad y con verdadera vocación de servicio.
También me pongo en los zapatos del paciente. La mayoría les da miedo asistir a consulta odontólogica y solo lo hace cuando no aguantan el dolor o cuando no tienen otra opción. Sé que ser paciente es difícil. Sin embargo debemos dejar de lado todos esos pensamientos negativos y estar tranquilos. Si dudas del odontólogo también estarías dudando de las autoridades que lo contrataron y de la red de salud pública de tu ciudad. Si no te quieres atender con ese Odontólogo estas en todo tu derecho pero nunca le faltes el respeto dudado de sus capacidades o haciendo malos comentarios sin siquiera conocerlo.
Gracias a Dios son más las personas que día a día apoyan nuestro trabajo y nos agradecen por el servicio. Todos ellos son un motivo para seguir trabajando y para ser más responsables y cuidadosos con nuestro trabajo, para mantener en alto el estándar de calidad. Me considero fuerte de mente y este tipo de comentarios no dejo que me afecten, sin embargo generan incomodidad. Nunca hagamos sentir que alguien no sabe hacer su trabajo sin siquiera conocerlo. Hello Hivers! I hope you are very well. My name is Omar, I am a dentist and today I want to tell you how day by day I face insecurities in my job.
In a few weeks I will be 1 year since I started working in a public health center in the dental area. My coworkers and my boss have treated me excellent and have helped me a lot in this path, the experience has been very nice. However, the experience with patients has been quite difficult in some cases. Despite the fact that I am almost 1 year old, patients still consider me "the new guy" and tend to question my ability to do my job. This has generated insecurities in me, however I face them day by day and show with my work that I am capable for this and any other challenge that comes my way.
Attending the public is always going to be difficult and if it is in a health center even more so. In my job, we see a certain number of patients by appointment, leaving room for strict emergencies that may come in for consultation that day. However, there are patients who want to break the rules and demand to be seen that day even without appointments. There are people who have even insulted the staff. These are difficult situations and we deal with them every day. The service that we provide in this center is totally free to the community but this does not imply that people can insult and abuse the staff. We have never denied service to anyone but things must be done according to the rules. I treat human beings and I am not going to do anything to them just to get out of the way. Dentistry is not just pulling teeth, this profession involves many things and also has its complications.
One of the worst mistakes human beings make is to judge by appearance. When I arrive at the office and the patients see me in the waiting room they are amazed and do not believe that I am the dentist, they see me very young and therefore believe they have the right to judge me and doubt me. However, when they are inside the office and see that I did a good job, fast and causing the least discomfort to the patient, they thank me and even tell me "God bless your hands, I didn't feel anything". Hearing those words is a great satisfaction, it is nice to show people that it is wrong to judge without having given a chance.
Patients always want to be seen by older dentists because they have more "experience" but some of these people are stuck with past dental practices, with sometimes archaic treatments that are now contraindicated. Dentistry as most branches of medicine evolve very fast, so you have to be in constant preparation and at the forefront of dental materials, as every day new products come out. In this health center we work as two dentists, my colleague is 26 years old and I am 25. We are young, graduated from the same private university. We are both very eager to work and we do it with a lot of responsibility and with a true vocation for service.
I also put myself in the patient's shoes. Most of them are afraid to go to the dentist's office and only do so when they can't stand the pain or when they have no other option. I know that being a patient is difficult. However, we must put aside all those negative thoughts and be calm. If you doubt the dentist you would also be doubting the authorities that hired him/her and the public health network in your city. If you don't want to see that dentist, you have every right to do so, but never disrespect him by doubting his abilities or making bad comments without even knowing him.
Thank God there are more people every day who support our work and thank us for our service. All of them are a reason to keep working and to be more responsible and careful with our work, to keep the quality standard high. I consider myself strong-minded and I do not let this kind of comments affect me, however they generate discomfort. Let's never make someone feel like they don't know how to do their job without even knowing them. Thanks to all for reading me🙌

Insecurities can really be devastating most especially when one is feeling it within ones self
Tienes toda la razón. Por eso hay que trabajar diariamente para evitar que esas inseguridades nos afecten.
