Wet Wood Still Burns.

1 Kings 18:36-39 (NIV)

At the time of sacrifice, the prophet Elijah stepped forward and prayed: “Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command.
Answer me, Lord, answer me, so these people will know that you, Lord, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.”
Then the fire of the Lord fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench.
When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, “The Lord—he is God! The Lord—he is God!”

Often, we overlook the seemingly obvious things. We sometimes overlook things and then begin to wonder, 'How did I miss that?' We have perfected our art of living in regrets rather than avoiding one. We want to also look for something or someone to blame because we feel it would make the guilt a little bit okay to bear.

'Oh! How did I miss my marriage was in trouble?' 'Oh! How did I miss that flight?' 'How could I have been so careless with my tickets?' 'I shouldn't have let him go there' We have so many regrets and so many thoughts creeping up in our minds when situations happen but God wants us to raise our faith rather than our fears.

We cannot go back to make a brand new start but we have the choice of making a better ending. You might not have control over the events of time past except to think about them in retrospect. It's sometimes hard to let the past go but it is the best to do if you want to heal and move forward. You can learn from the past but you don't have to plateau there. For anyone who has achieved a great feat, it would be advised also never to plateau there because that is how mediocrity sets in; when you don't reach out to be better and you are living off past glory. Same with when you are in pain or regrets, you can't advance when you keep feeding off the memory of the mistakes you made. God has a word for you today and that is, 'Wet wood still burns'.

You might have missed those tiny details. You might have missed a contract by a tiny margin. You might have missed that deadline by few minutes and even got rejected over tiny details but God said, your wet wood will still burn. It is when the situation looks so hopeless, that is when God enjoys showing even more of His power. He is a God full of wonders and surprises. Remember the story of Lazarus? They thought Jesus was late. Remember the children of Israelites at the red sea? Remember Job? Hannah? Elizabeth? Sarah? These are not just Bible stories but the truth that there is no situation that God cannot turn around.

Jeremiah 32:27 (NIV)

“I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?

We have mastered the art of feeding our fears rather than raising our faith and without faith, it is impossible to please God. We enjoy telling God how big our problems are rather than telling our problems how big our God is, forgetting that He is more than willing to honour our faith so He can take all the Glory, rightfully deserved.

The Bible reference above came to mind. Have you ever tried to burn wet wood? Do you have the same result as you would with dry wood? Dry wood burns faster than wet ones, if it will even light up at all. God showed His power there and in the full glare of everyone, He showed them His powers so they can honour, reference and worship Him because He would never share His Glory with anyone.

Whatever you are going through, God can still and will always bring the best out of it. He can produce the best of tunes from broken strings. Nothing can hinder or limit Him because He made all things. Your wet wood can still burn. Raise your faith rather than your fears. Don't worry about how it would happen just as Mary was asking the Holy Spirit 'How would these things be, seeing that I know not any man'. Do all you can do and let God do all you can't do. What you can do is to raise your faith and hold on because wet wood still burns.
