My Neighbourhood Laws And Community Decisions

Welcome Back!

Hello beautiful people! I want to welcome you back to my space, as I am so excited to be writing on the topic of Laws and community decisions. This is really an important issue to discuss, so let's dive in.

Why Do We Need Laws?

You see, as human beings, we all have our wills with which we made choices and decisions. And again, every single person on earth has the right to exercise their will however they choose.

The interesting thing, however, is that because we differ as individuals, there is always the possibility of conflicts arising due to the differences in choices, interests and opinions of the individuals concerned.

Where There Is No Law...

A lot of things can go wrong in a community, environment or neighbourhood where there is no law put in place to guide the actions and behaviours of the residents and non residents in that community. In fact, a lawless society is just like a time bomb waiting to explode as this can lead to chaos and insecurity.

This is why many communities and neighbourhoods are coming up with guidelines that will help to ensure that people are living in harmony, showing mutual respect and also take security precautions.

Community Guidelines In My Neighbourhood

The Community Development Association (CDA) is a vibrant association in my place of residence. It is made up of representatives chosen from all the different streets in community.

Each street has its own days of meeting which every house sends a representative to attend, whether they are landlords or tenants. Each street also has the executive Committee, from which they select two people to represent them in the larger house (CDA).

Having talked a bit about the CDA is, here are some of the guidelines and rules they have come up with.

Animals Are Not Allowed To Stray

It is so common to see people who practise farming in my community. Some have vegetable gardens in their compounds, while some raise one kind of animal or the other... cat, chicken, dog, duck, goat, sheep, turkey.

Some of these compounds are not fenced, so sometimes someone's animal strays into a neighbour's garden to destroy the plants. This has caused a lot of quarrels among neighbours that the CDA had to come up with the directive that any animal that the owner refuses to house must be arrested and the owner penalised.

No Motorbikes Allowed After 7pm

There was a time when there were rampant cases of thefts and burglary attacks happening almost every day in my neighbourhood. The interesting thing is that the victims always reported that the culprits rode away on a motorbike.

After several deliberations, the CDA proposed that commercial motorcycles should not be allowed into the streets after 7pm. Of course, to make that effective, each street was tasked with the project of erecting street gates which must be shut once it is 7pm.

To make this work, every house on the street had to be levied, and with the monies realised the project was done.

Public Address Systems Not Allowed At Night

In my community, there are so many religious houses of worship. In some cases you have up to two or three of the same religion or otherwise on the same street.

It is okay if the use of their public address system is only during the day while everyone is busy. But unfortunately, some use it at night for night prayers not minding that the sounds from the loudspeakers are disturbing people who are sleeping in the night.

After a lot of back and forth, the CDA was able to succeed in getting the people concerned to co-operate so that people will not resort to violence.

In Conclusion

It is interesting that despite all the guidelines and rules which everyone in my neighbourhood is supposed to adhere to, there are still people who feel that they are above the law. It is so unfortunate that there are people who will always be law breakers no matter how simple the law is.

These are nice rules to bring orderliness in a community. If people should abide by these laws, things will be more structured for you guys

Yes, you are right. Unfortunately, there are still some people that would prefer to not comply. But the situation is not as bad as it used to be. Thank you for visiting.

Wow, you guys have amazing set of community rules. We kind of have RWA (Resident Welfare Association) here in India doing work on similar lines. It's a good approach and effective also. Have a good day friend. !PIZZA

Oh, that's great! Different communities set up associations to help bring sanity and make their neighbourhood a great place. I am glad that this is also the objective of the RWA in India. The effective really depends on the willingness of the residents themselves to comply.

Thank you for visiting and leaving a beautiful comment.

Over here, animals stray and the owners don't care until someone steals them.

There was a time when robbery was blamed on motorbikes and it was banned in my state too. We have something in common here

Even with the laws and rules in place, there are still people who leave their animals to stray in my neighbourhood as well. Such people don't really have anyone to blame if someone steals them, and they also run the risk of paying fines if their animals are caught, yet they don't care.

Thank you for visiting.

It is truly sad that with all the laws,

It is always very important to establish laws and above all to comply with them, that is the duty to be. The unfortunate thing is to live as in my case in a country where there is practically no use of them and consequently the lack of respect.

How nice that you have managed to establish laws by yourself for your community, they are excellent, I hope they comply and respect them. Interesting your post...

Laws can only be effective when the people comply with it. Although we try hard to make these things work, there are still some of the people who really don't care about the laws or their enforcement. But we just have to keep on finding ways to resolve these issues.
Thanks for your visit.

It is always interesting to work on these committees. I am the secretary of my Society Committee and it can be quite a headache to get work done, and collect levies, while we have full time jobs to do. Worst is when bad actors talk to you as if this was the only work you had in your day. But it is a way to give back to your neighborhood hence I keep doing it for now.

Cheers from a fellow #dreemerforlife

I feel you, @brijwhiz. Those bad actors are everywhere, even in online communities and 😂😂😂. But we can only keep on doing the best we can to ensure there is progress.

I appreciate your visit and contribution. Thank you so much.

Impressive. Every community needs laws else everyone would carry on their shenanigans unchecked. Laws keep the order.

#dreemerforlife

There could be laws that we find illogical because everything won’t go as the way we always want it to happen right? Also if there is no law then people would do anything and disrespect others because they fear nothing to lose. When there is a proper law for everything then it creates a good society.

You make some very good points here, my friend. I have several *Law Enforcement* folks in my family. I have seen what they go through, to try and "keep the peace" many times. So I have a very different opinion of law than most people might. BUt the point still remains... the laws are made for a reason, and when others think they don't apply to them, It can be **very** upsetting. Especially if you are doing everything the right way... while others don't. You've done a great job with your post... keep up the good work!

the laws are made for a reason, and when others think they don't apply to them, It can be very upsetting.

And this is so true! Unfortunately, it seems there will always be certain people who just love to frustrate the efforts of those that have taken a stand for peace and progress just because they themselves have no regard whatsoever for the laws in the community they belong to.

Thank you so much for your lovely comment, Sir. Your support and tips are much appreciated 🙏 ❤.
