Life Is Unpredictable: Don’t Leave Your Family in the Dark

in Hive Naijalast month

I received a call from a friend yesterday that got me so teary. It took her more than an hour to explain to me in detail what she has been through lately, and I couldn't stop wishing that our men and women would learn to do things rightly for their own good and the good of their family at large.

The last time I checked, no one on this earth owns his or her life but God. Life is so unpredictable that a healthy man today can be on life support tomorrow. It's so unpredictable that healthy people can step out for their usual daily activities and unfortunately meet their death on their way. It happens every now and then; even yesterday, two innocent people were killed by a Dangote trailer on the highway. I witnessed this tragedy live, and not that they say it, it's sad!

That's, by the way, about the call from this friend. She said that suddenly, her husband started complaining of headaches consistently after taking medications without any change, and she advised him to go check his BP. The man kept saying, "Tomorrow, I will, I will." The next thing after two days was that he collapsed at home, and she screamed for help, and neighbors assisted in rushing him to the hospital. At this point, the man was already unconscious and pooing blood uncontrollably.

Surprisingly, the doctor in the hospital said that until 1 million naira is deposited, he dares not treat this man in a terrible health condition battling for his life. All efforts to plead with the doctor proved abortive; meanwhile, the wife, my friend, said her own husband has millions of naira in his account, but since he was unconscious, she has no access to the money to save his life. Then on her own account, she has just #20,000, which is almost nothing compared to the deposit that is being asked for before her husband will be attended to.

Imagine having millions of naira in your account capable of saving your life, but your wife can't help you, and neither can you talk to disclose the PIN. That was a terrible situation. The wife had to start making calls, calling friend upon friend who she feels is capable of raising such money instantly to save her husband's life, and fortunately, she was lucky to receive such help almost immediately. The man was on life support for three days before he became conscious again with many complications. It was a long story; she sent me pictures of the husband's situation. It was very terrible; I couldn't behold it longer and had it deleted. God really saved the man; he tested death but survived it.

And then, I ask, what is the big deal about men or women giving their spouses their bank PIN and every detail they need to know just in case? Sadly, this is how banks keep using the money of dead people to run business for years, and no one will claim such money. I know of a woman whose husband died, and she kept suffering financially because she had no information about the husband's wealth. Meanwhile, the husband did not only have plenty of money saved in the bank but also had assets scattered everywhere, according to the story anyway.

I may not have much personally, but whatever I have, my husband knows and has the pin or keys. This is because I do not own my life. As long as I pray for good health and long life, there is still the need for everyone to do things right because life is unpredictable. It won't be nice that strangers enjoy my money while my family are being denied their right when I am no more.

We can get things done in the right way, please, even if it means giving strict instructions; some secrets are simply a disaster in the long run.

This story really hits deep.

Life truly is unpredictable, and it shows us why transparency in families is so important. Many people think keeping financial details to themselves is a form of protection, but in reality, it can put loved ones in avoidable pain when emergencies strike.

No one prays for bad situations, but preparation is also part of love and responsibility. Sharing PINs, account info, or even writing it down securely can save lives and protect the family from unnecessary suffering.

Thank you for sharing 🙏

The mentality of some people concerning finances is really baffling but it is what it is

We should do things to protect the interests of our loved ones, honestly

It's well oo

This is an eye opener, thanks for sharing..
Even so many people have their reasons for not disclosing their personal assets to their partner... I just wish there's another way out to make it safe or maybe write your pin somewhere and keep it for your family just incase

Well, some ple have their reasons which is understandable but there must be a better approach to this

This is indeed a life lesson for everyone to learn from, but at times no one to be blame for this but when there is love no point in hiding anything from your spouse. That's why we must choose love over every other things.

Life is vanity upon vanity ...regardless , I should close my eyes and do the needful

My uncle died a few years ago and his family were suffering because they only knew that he bought lands and other assets but they don't know where it was, his brothers inherited everything, when his daughter complained about it, they asked her if she could prove that it was their dad's assets.

It's sad that people still hides things from their spouses, without thinking of the future

You see? Just imagine the children blocked access to their dad's assets simply because the man failed to do things rightly
It's sad

Really sad

It will surprise you that this same husband will get better and still not let his wife know anything about his wealth.

I have a friend whose dad died about two years ago and till today, the family doesn’t know where his properties are located.
I know my dads mobile money pins and almost all his details. Not because he doesn’t have money or anything, but because anything can happen.

It will surprise you that this same husband will get better and still not let his wife know anything about his wealth.

That's exactly what happened !..
I missed to add that to the post ..lol

I love that ur dad is open to his financial details ..so nice

You can imagine. Some people never change.😂

Hahaha , change is not found in their dictionary

The conversation on telling your spouse your pin and giving them access to your account can sometimes be a double edged sword, especially now that divorce is flying here and there. This, I believe is the reason why most people (both men and women) find it difficult to trust their partners with these things, because some times that trust can be broken and when that happens, it can take that person from being a millionaire, down to being poor all in a blink of an eye.

It all depends on how wicked their partner is.

To me, I feel the best solution to this kind of problem is creating a seperate family emergency bank account that both partners have access to and can use it for emergencies like this, while also having their own individual bank accounts.

Okay...I see your point which is very true but yet not applicable to all spouse . Honestly , it's still a concern that banks are usually the luckiest ones swimming on dead pples money instead of their family member. The idea of creating a separate bank.acconut Incase of such emergency is fine but what will happen to the main money and asset of a dead spouse if no one can access it including the brothers or sisters of that person ?

Thank you

This is a wake up call for many of us to stop withholding important and vital details from our spouse. Thankfully, this man got a second chance but not everyone is always lucky. Thank you for this powerful message.

He got a second chance but didn't change oo
Till date, he didn't tell his wife his pin , yet they live happily ..I wonder why
Even my kids knows my pin and my husband ATM pin

God will help him o. Who's supposed to have a rethink if not him. It is well.

Oh my, that lady's story is very touching indeed. What a crisis. Fortunately, she was able to raise the money and her husband was saved.

But what you said is actually the truth. No one owns life at all and some secrets are not worth it at all.

What if she wasn't fortunate to raise the money? Maybe the man would have died but yet, he didn't see the reason to do things right after he recovers

Hmmm, this is terrible 😭

Life indeed, is a good teacher, whether good , bad or ugly.

But the question is how many times can we be taught, or can we learn from other people's experiences?

Well different strokes for different folks,

Every family knows their level of tolerance therfore it is left for each family to devise means of handling certain issues.

Some has a will while some have joint accounts and personal accounts to run the family incase of emergencies.

But the major thing is agreeing to the one that suits and works for the family.

Being over secretive is a termite that is eating up families.

Mtchewe, which one should we say and which one should we leave.

The message has come, let us learn but not the hard way.

To be forewarned is to be forearmed.

Yes...we can withhold certain things no issue, but not too secretive ...there are many ways to go about this things...and I hope family choose which one suits them

I agree completely. 👍

It now behoves on familes to do the needful.

People making life difficult just by the way they chose to ignore doing the right thing.
