Work and duty exercise

In the Lagos state calendar, yesterday was the day of our resumption after the two-week holiday we embarked on. However, in another state, it is quite different in the sense that they used three weeks for their second-term holiday. I think Lagos has a unique calendar different from other states in Nigeria. Their curriculum as well is also different from other states.

It is stipulated of us to all resume back to work even if students are not many. Like yesterday, out of about 1500 students that we have. It was only about 200 of them they were around. I do believe many of them decided to stay at home so that they wouldn't have to clean the surroundings and their classrooms after the short holiday of two weeks.

Normally, the assembly ought to start by 7:45 and end at 8 am before the commencement of the academic work. However, it wasn’t like that yesterday being the first day of resumption. The assembly couldn't start until about 9:30 am when we had a sizeable number of students. The assembly took longer than the normal day as it was a day of resumption. Prayer, orientation and other information information were provided.

We had to group the students for a division of labour. Those who were to work in the toilets, classroom and management offices were all selected and each group of students were supervised by a teacher.

There was no teaching and learning yesterday. It was only manual labour and keeping the environment clean. Shortly after the sanitation. We held a staff meeting that lasted for about 2 hours. How to manage the school, keep records and ensure effective teaching and learning were mostly emphasised. Not long after that, It was already closing time. On getting home, I couldn't do much than just take my shower and go straight to bed.
