Brave Ukrainian Soldiers Evacuates Over 300 Civilians From the Azovstal steelworks in Mariupol - As Fierce Battle Still Continues in the Last Ukrainian Resistance in the East

Mariupol has been the city that matters most to the Russian authorities since the inception of the Russia-Ukraine war in February, this is because of Russia's interest in the Port City.

Several attempts have been made by the Russian military to takeover the city but they've face severe resistance from the Ukrainian forces, who are ready to sacrifice their lives than to see Russia takeover that city.

One of the utmost responsibilities of both the Ukrainian government, the United Nations as well as the International Red Cross Society ⛑️⛑️⛑️ is to do everything possible to evacuate the civilian population within the city and other targeted cities in Ukraine.

The battle in recent times have moved from Donbas region, to Kyiv and now is at its fierced moment in Mariupol, which seems to be the Ukrainian last resistance city in the Eastern region.

The Russian military have pushed the Ukrainian military to the Azovstal steelworks in Mariupol and the steelworks serves as a safe zone until it was sieged by the Russian military some few days ago.

With evacuation goal in mind of the aforementioned agencies, the Red Cross Society in collaboration with the Ukrainian military apparatus, were able to evacuate about 100 civilians from the Azovstal steelworks on Sunday, but several civilians were still present in the steelworks that needed to be evacuated from the Port City.

Denys Prokopenko, commander of the Ukrainian Azov regiment, has said "heavy, bloody battles" are underway at the sprawling site which has a network of underground tunnels.
"The situation is extremely difficult, but in spite of everything, we continue to carry out the order to hold the defence," he added.Source

It's very pertinent that the Ukrainian soldiers hold their stand on defending the city, although out of the 2000 military personnel in the Azov region, about 500 of them are wounded by the Russian military attacks.

His wife, Kateryna Prokopenko, said: "We don't want them to die. They won't surrender. They are waiting for the bravest countries to evacuate them."
It comes after the Red Cross said more than 300 civilians were evacuated from Mariupol and other nearby communities on Wednesday.Source

The journey from Azovstal steelworks to Zaporizhzhia will take at least 5 days and the first set of civilians which is about 100 people (including women, the elderly and 17 children) were successfully evacuated over the weekend and have been taken to a safer region.

Mariupol Mayor Vadym Boychenko has said Russian forces are targeting the steelworks with heavy artillery, tanks, aircraft, warships and "heavy bombs that pierce concrete three-to-five metres thick".Source

The steelworks has come to represent the last pocket of Ukrainian resistance in the besieged port city which has witnessed some of the worst atrocities of the war.Source

Finally, Russian government through a telegraph message said they'll open up another evacuation channel today (Thursday) between 8am to 6pm to enable civilians leave the plant.
