Being stressed out is something that is hard to avoid these days. Daily, we experience stress in different ways and despite how well we rest or eat, our cortisol level is always high, increasing our body’s metabolic rate. Some stress that often plaques us as humans are mental and emotional stress. Physical stress is one that can easily be accounted for but it is usually easy to manage with good food and rest. But it’s different when we talk about mental and emotional stress which are often as a result of certain life pressures we face.
According to the second edition for the Scifi prompt, we are asked to share how we manage life pressures (stress and anxiety). Like I said, we are often anxious and stressed about a lot of things. Our very existence is filled with so many problems that causes us to be pressured, feeling stressed and anxious. There is the thought of what to eat especially when we have little or nothing. There is the pressure from work to give our best. Pressure from school to get good grades. Pressure to get married. Pressure to live large like others and so much more.
During our quest to make our lives better and comfortable both for ourselves and families, we encounter difficulties which makes us to feel pressured leading to us worrying so much and stressing ourselves out. Usually, it is hard to even stay calm in the midst of what to us is a chaos. We are always quick to feel worried and this alone is more than enough to increase our stress levels. For me, I’m still learning of better ways to manage these pressures that comes from different angles based on the ones I have tried myself.

First and foremost, one of the best remedies for me to manage stress and anxiety which is often as a result of being pressured is resting/sleeping. A lot of people have messed up their body’s sleeping pattern and that alone is able to make them find it hard to stay relaxed in the face of pressure. Our body is a masterpiece that has everything working in place to make it always stable or within a stable state and one of the things that helps is a deep sleep. Getting a deep sleep especially during a stressful time helps the brain relax and rejuvenate.
But when we lack good rest, our brain will feel so much stress and it is harder for it to stay coordinated as it should be. We feel worked up about everything. And this is why, getting a good rest at a time of stress and anxiety is a good remedy for me. But then, this is going to be hard for some people because during this time, they will find it hard to get any good rest and even if they do, it won’t be for long.
Well, resting doesn’t work for all forms of pressure. Another thing I do is focus on me. During a time when I feel pressured, I learn to listen to myself and remind myself that I’m not the others, I’m me. Most times, we feel pressured about certain things because we forget that we are not them and we have our own unique role to play. We keep trying to fit in and that is a huge factor for stress and anxiety. Learning to live at our pace is crucial in managing pressure.
If we can do this, we will always be able to manage stress and anxiety which comes as a result of us feeling pressured. And in addition to focusing on ourselves, it is important to always keep improving on oneself. Always strive to be better at whatever you do and with time, you will see those pressures dying down. But the main way to manage pressure is focusing on ourselves. If you must compete, it should be between yourself of yesterday and the you of tomorrow while applying it today. Don’t compete with someone else that isn’t you and the pressure on you will be greatly managed.
