It Goes Round and Round

Some people are very comfortable with being wicked. You’d see them be so mean towards others, ripping people of things they hold dear, without care of how they’d feel if reverse were the case. They boast of mean things they did to people, and pride their wickedness like it’s the most normal thing in the world.

I once went to train at a particular institution. This person was my dad’s friend, so my training at the place was free. Many other students paid for it. Among the other students, there was this boy that came from another state. He had no relation in Lagos but because he wanted to take that particular training with us, he had to pay for accommodation in one of the man’s houses. This man saw it as an opportunity to use this boy. He would send him on silly errands, like going to buy takeout for the man’s kids, going to buy food for the man’s wife, washing the man’s shoes and other things.

Eventually, the boy got tired because he wasn’t really learning anything, and he was basically the man’s errand-boy at that institution, he told the man he wasn’t comfortable with the errands since he paid for all the services the man was offering. The man began shouting at the boy that he was a very ungrateful human being. After he housed him, taught him what he knows, the boy has now grown wings and is rebelling. Long story short, he sent the boy away from his office on the grounds that the boy was rude, and lacked humility. This boy hadn’t even learnt up to four months, out of his 1 year course, and he was sent away.

Now, if this man kept quiet about what he did, I probably would have forgotten it, but he continuously boasted about how he ate the boy’s money and sent him away. Whenever he addressed us, he constantly mentioned that he would eat your money, if you refused to be humble, and still send you away. He would even add that you cannot arrest him because he has soldiers as friends.

People that think they are above the law, just because they are rich, or they find themselves in high places, are despicable set of humans to ever exist. They tend to believe that because they are in a better position, it’ll forever be so. They seemingly forget that as much as life has no manual, what goes around still comes around. They do things for their own benefit, exploit others, and still lie to themselves that it is justified. I believe very much in karma, because I’ve experienced it for myself, and seen others experience it. I’ve seen people suffer for things their parents did, and things they themselves did a long time ago. The theory of karma is one that should never be underestimated, because it doesn’t mind waiting generations to strike.

Everytime I heard that man talk about the injustice he meted out on the boy, it makes me wonder what gives him the illusion that life will always be the way it is for him. I’ve tried so many times to see things from his point of view, and why it is justified to rob someone else of their hardwork and sweat, because they didn’t conform to your rules, but I can’t. Playing survival of the fittest with other people’s hardwork can never be justified to me because I know karma exists. If it doesn’t catch up with you, in your lifetime, think about that of your children. You can do what you please with your life, but be careful when it involves others.

This is my entry to the sci-fi multiverse prompt for the week.

Thanks for reading.

What a hideous human being. I wonder if he too was bullied growing up and takes it out on others or whether he was just born cruel. There's no way you would get away with it here - there's laws to stop it happening and the boy could have sued him for wrongful dismissal amongst other things.

If he was bullied growing up, I think that’s even more reason for him to be good to others, after all, he has experienced firsthand what it means to be treated unjustly. It’s a pity that corruption is the order of the day here, otherwise he would have gotten a taste of his own medicine sooner.
