Monday Musings: The Year of Social Distancing

So, I guess 2020 will be remembered as "The Year of Social Distancing."

I just finished our grocery shopping, which was particularly time consuming today because the supermarket we sometimes go to is renovating to install various screens and counters to make social distancing easier.

"Building a Safer Store For You!"

Good for them...

Consider, however, that even after Covid-19 has been consigned to memory and a place in the history books, these reminders of Social Distancing will remain... what they are doing at the supermarket is not a temporary installation, but something far more permanent.

Meanwhile — and really not related — someone we know recently discovered that they were pregnant. In many cases, cause for celebration, right?

But here's the rub: this "someone" is the former daughter of a friend who then went through "gender reassignment" to become a boy, then went on to fall in love and marry his gay male lover... and now they are (biologically speaking) expecting... because evidently the biologically female plumbing is still working.

Now don't get me wrong, I think love is a beautiful thing, in all it's myriad forms. And this post is not intended as an editorial on people's gender decisions.

What this all does makes me think about is how nature is really a marvelous self-adjustment system and machinery.

If you study animal populations, sometimes they reach a point where the population increasingly struggles to sustain itself, as a result of which there are increases in unusual sexual behaviors, decreased interest in ensuring the survival of offspring, while fatal and systemic illnesses increase.

Consequently, the population decreases back to a more sustainable level.

I realize that many might get all butthurt and offended at the suggestion that humans may have succeeded in overpopulating the planet and we are now part of some kind of natural culling process... because we have AWARENESS and CONSCIOUSNESS and "we have SCIENCE!" and all that rot... but isn't it possible that it is precisely that sort of superiority and arrogance thinking that has landed us in this mess?

Who are we, to think that we are exempt from the natural cycles, ebbs and flows of Planet Earth?

I mean, I'm no scientist, but some of this actually makes sense to me, these days...

Meanwhile, my supermarket is under construction in order to make me feel safer about buying a gallon of milk and a loaf of bread. Yup, it sure is a strange year!

I will be happy if in the future we CAN say it was only 2020 that was messed up by covid.

I suppose all the permanent store changes will be for the good anyway and maybe their employees will be spared some flu and other things they are exposed to by others daily after the covid worry is gone.

I think it is arrogant to believe we are in any kind of control. As another instance, global warming. I am not a scientist either, but we already know many times in the history of the earth, there have been huge climate changes and it wasn't because of what humans were doing at those times. Sure I believe we are polluting everything, air, water, food chain...... but I'm not sure the climate would have always stayed the same if we weren't.

The notion that we have control over nature is definitely an illusion. The first supercomputers were actually developed to try to predict the weather... and we still pretty much suck at that!

The planet has been here for a really long time... humanity — if you really stretch your imagination — has been here 100,000 years or so. we'll probably disappear, and the planet will still be here.

I was talking to a friend the other day and said if this virus had manifested itself in 1918 instead of the spanish influenza epidemic, would we be reading about it today. I said I don't think people would have noticed it with the backdrop of other stuff killing them off in greater numbers. It gave everyone a bit of a pause for thought.

Back then, there were millions who were already weak and unhealthy from being in the trenches with war and mustard gas and malnutrition... and a lot of them died.

Today, a lot of elderly and weaker people with pre-existing conditions are also dying. The problem is a media/authorities dead set on claiming that every time someone (who already had emphysema, for example) dies, "it was Covid."

'the devils greatest ever trick was to convince everyone tat he didn't exist..' (or something like that)

....'the genes ' greatest ever trick was to convince the ego that it's consciousness was in charge...(precisely that - they are my words!lol)

The devil will tell 99 truths to get one lie across... or something like that.

Ego is a weird and slippery snake, to be sure

nah.... it's those bloody silent genes, working away non stop in the back ground 24/7, that causes the confusions! lol

Ive always said this is hell... to many bad things happening for it to be a good place.

Well, there certainly does seem to be a lot of sketchy behavior on this planet... wi9sh it weren't so, but it's everywhere I look. "The Good" seems to be the exception, rather than the rule.

We never hear much good news, all the hate and evil is starting to become scary how the world is changing.
