Eclipse

Jenny woke up to a pain in her stomach and cold shivers all over her body. She tried to sit up and grab her arms around her bony knees. They too were bruised and raw with pieces of pavement embedded in parts.

The city wasn't always like this. She remembered her grandmother told her about a time when thousands of people shared information together on something called an insect net. There people would spend hours upon hours of doing nothing but trolling and posting whatever that meant.

But it was the stories her grandmother remembered that humored her. Jenny's grandmother told her of a boy named Bart with spiky hair and a man named Odysseus who rode ships of doughnuts to distant lands. If only she could hear just one of her grandma's stories again maybe everything would not seem so eerie.

It seemed like yesterday she left Syracuse, but for what? Nothing got better. All that was left was to walk on. If only there was any sign of life. The noises Jenny's grandmother warned her of. The sounds of the last...

Jenny's grandma talked about it so often how two parties had viruses and they voted and then it all happened after that. Jenny wondered what kind of parties they must have had and how these parties caused so much trouble in such a short time.

She reached out. The buildings were abandoned crumbling stones over time. The institutions of ages stood still in the dust. Then she heard a voice that was not human. It came from outside but it came from within her at the same time. The voice echoed in her very being.

She started to move towards the voice and as she got closer she could here it more clearly. She began to speak about all the trouble she had and the agony of the age. She spoke about the loneliness of this planet and despair of being the only human alive.
