Greenhouse Planted, Rest Of Garden Planted, Pea Fence, Sluice, Aim, The Plugging - Monday

in Homesteading16 days ago

It was garden day yesterday as my seeds were delivering so I had to get the greenhouse prepped and ready. First I raked out the soil then pulled the irrigation lines then the plastic.

With the plastic out I pounded the stakes in and strung the bottom wire for the cucumber and tomato rows. I strung the bottom wire so I have something to tie my strings to that I tie the plants to as they climb.

The mail delivered and I had my seed order around 11am. First thing was the cucumbers which went to the left row.

Then the tomato seeds went in. I had to leave a few spots open for starts that come end of the month.

The same with the peppers so I only was able to plant 4, 3, and 3 spots of the peppers since I have to leave an open space between them.

With the greenhouse mostly planted it was time to plant the main garden rows. 50 spots of each of the 3 and I really hope the celery sprouts better this year than last. It took me a bit to get each of the rows planted since the seeds are all very round and want to pile into the hole so I had to be deliberate in getting just 2 seeds out at a time.

I don't get a full row of the Emiko since I have the cabbage from the greenhouse in the row but the 3 rows of cabbage will hopefully do really well again this year.

I grew Chioggia beets years ago and really liked them so I'm a bit excited to grow them again.

I had been trying to decide what to put in on the end of the garlic row and ended up on Davidor onions. I've no clue if thy will manage to grow enough by harvest time but it's worth a shot. Only 6 spots as a test.

I was pushing my time as it got close to school pickup but managed to get the last row in the main garden planted. A full row of peas that went in after I got the posts in and fence up.

Once back home with the boys from school I got 5 spots of malabar spinach planted in the greenhouse. I had to install a bottom wire as they will vine a lot.

Then I finished the row with walla walla onions in hope that the extended growing time in the greenhouse will get them big enough.

The boys were back at the creek with the the sluice and on the way down to check on them I found this flower along the path.

The chances of him finding anything are very slim but it's good for him to get the practice so this summer when we go out to the real gold bearing areas he will be ready to go.

Got a short session on the board had a few very nice feeling throws.

Still dinking with the door opener and on the way back to the house saw the nice sunset colors.

I took a shower and when I got out my right ear was plugged. Only it is inside and it is enraging! My head has the hollow sound to it from the plugging and the pressure is maddening. I am dropping colloidal silver in. SOOO frustrating.

Today I have to go to Deer Park to get oil and filter for my truck then change them once back on the farm. I'll go plant the corn seeds in the upper garden, keep working on the coop door opener, boys to and from school, fight with my ear, I really need to cut grass before it gets out of hand, then figure out something for dinner tonight.

I remember planting season.. sore back for days.

I’m so particular about the pepper you’ve planted
I can’t wait to see it grow

In this way it is much more difficult to take care of the garden and it takes a lot of effort on top of such things.

That's actually the point of this year, reducing my daily effort. I've been planting much more that I will harvest once instead of daily so I have more time for things off the farm.

Yeah you are right.
