As I tromped through the summer squash rows yesterday morning I tossed them in the tub as I came across them. Then I saw it... One of the plants had snuck outside the fence and there was a monster growing.
Damn squash can be maddening sometimes. It's going to be interesting when I get to the pumpkins in a month or so....
A solid load of cucumbers and then a few pounds of tomatoes came out of the greenhouse.
Man Utd played, sort of. But as is the norm they didn't win.
My entire afternoon was taken up with the truck engine. Got the last bolts removed and the hoist hooked up.
The engine came out and I mounted it on the engine stand to continue the re3moval of parts.
Off came the timing cover.
Then I removed the main timing chain and went to the cam chains.
I FOUND THE PROBLEM!!! It seems the pin had popped on the front of the cam which allowed the gear to twist 90 degrees so the timing was TOTALLY off. There was a bit of marring on the face of the cam but I took care of that later.
The pin went back in and I decided to go make a run for sealant.
Few tubes of gasket sealants and I was back in the car headed for the farm.
Grabbed a stone for my rotary tool and hit the marred spot on the cam then also smoothed the back of the bolt head.
The engine stand was giving me trouble since the gear plate is still attached so turning the crank wasn't working. So I put the engine on the hoist to do the timing chain install.
It was a bit annoying HAVING to take the oil pan off since the pin from the cam had fallen down into the bottom pan. In the end it is all working out for the better since as I was removing parts I found some bolts that were not nearly as tight as I had made them... So this is going to give me the chance to REALLY torque everything as it's going back in.
Step by step following the factory service manual the chains went on. Cleaned mating surfaces and will put it all back together today.
Thankful for the food and then the much needed shower the soak was nice. My back is trashed though.
School starts Wednesday so the boys have to get into morning mode again. Reprogrammed the coop opener and have it reset this morning for 7am to 8pm open. Will get to the garden then be back on the engine and hopefully will have it back in and started today. My back is sooooo sore.

Glad you found the problem, my friend!👍😊
Also, very good that there was enough clearance that when the timing was off the valves didn’t smack into the piston.🙄
So many new cars self-destruct when the timing is off!😳
Exactly what my Dad said too! Very happy there was enough clearance for the valves.
Sounds very good, my friend. It’ll be good to have your truck back!👍😊
That was a serious engineering skills you have shown there. Good a thing you're versatile doing so many things. It makes you independent of other guys.... beautiful!
