NOT happy yesterday morning. Went to go to PT with R and got there to wait around for 20 minutes then get brought back and I asked for who and they said just me. I was not having it. I stood there at the front desk weeks ago specifically setting the days for R and I to go to PT. It was 8:20 for him and 8:40 for me. I had already paid for the day and said no, this is garbage. They messed up the schedule not me so to fix it. It was bullshit as I should have had R in school or in the PT appt. So I walked out and took R to school. Really annoyed with it.

I'm finding myself becoming a lot less forgiving of these stupid mistakes others make. I have always just kowtowed to the situation, "oh, it's fine...." NO! Sometimes it's NOT ok, it's not fine!

So back at the farm I had to get everything loaded up to go fell trees. First I had to sharpen a chain which ended up really good and sharp thankfully.

Loaded the car and hooked up the trailer then headed out.

The blue gnats were out but the camera couldn't quite focus on them.

This was my first tree to take down. I got in and limbed it up from the bottom and piled the branches in the trailer.

Cut the tree down and up and got it in the trailer.

This is the ~40ft tall fir tree that is my major task.

IMG_20251009_110331.jpg

The larger spruce on the back terrace was quite full and dense and this time I used the chainsaw to limb it nice and fast.

IMG_20251009_110640.jpg

I've perfected the technique for hauling branches on the farm so it came in handy. Pile the branches so they are bowed up on each end. Wrap the end and then drag the branches up the hill to the trailer.

IMG_20251009_111047.jpg

I was pretty stoked on the placement of the tree. I had no desire to drop it off the edge so after lopping a few branches back on the big fir I laid it down exactly where I wanted it. I cut it to sections and hauled it all up to the trailer.

IMG_20251009_112601.jpg

Next was where I really kicked my ass... I grabbed a daisy and carabiners to use as a swami belt, attached a small rope to the chainsaw then climbed up the tree branches like a ladder. Tied off to a branch up about the eaves level then limbed all the branches on my way back down. HOLY SHIT WAS THAT A WORK OUT!!!! I AM NOT in climbing shape right now....

IMG_20251009_124014.jpg

The neighbor on the right is quite happy with his increased view already and they are going to love when the thing is gone. I ran out of room in the trailer so piled all the limbed branches to the side.

IMG_20251009_124017.jpg

It will be pretty mellow when I go back to finish taking it down the rest of the way.

IMG_20251009_124043.jpg

The trailer was well loaded and I strapped it down tight. It road just fine on the way back to the farm.

IMG_20251009_124203.jpg

OMG I was SO COATED IN PITCH!!!! It was everywhere and I spent a god 10 minutes with the alcohol spray bottle for the 3dprinter and paper towels spraying and wiping myself down to get it all off.

IMG_20251009_130516.jpg

PDC is ongoing and Littler easily won his match.

IMG_20251009_134139.jpg

You can see my blatant disregard for my skin...

IMG_20251009_135428.jpg

After a well needed break I went out to unload the branches.

IMG_20251009_142002.jpg

I drug it all out and onto the ground where the animals moseyed on over and started poking around.

Then the alpaca dove in and rolled around so I knew they were happy to have the piles.

IMG_20251009_142756.jpg

This was the one of two days that this happens, R had STEM and was done at 4 so I had to be there to pick him up and J had XC practice until 4:45. So I decided to pick R up and then go to Deer Park for groceries.

IMG_20251009_162559.jpg

It worked great because we got back in time to get J.

IMG_20251009_163946.jpg

Heard on the radio it was national pizza and beer day so that was what I got for dinner. Boys had root beer.

IMG_20251009_165758.jpg

Pizza, salad, grapes, and beer really hit the spot after the mad workout I had.

IMG_20251009_174004.jpg

For the evening I had NHL on.

IMG_20251009_182222.jpg

As the Kraken game was starting I went out and got the trailer hooked up for the grain run I have done this morning already.

IMG_20251009_190939.jpg

Nicely the Kraken won their first home opener ever and I went for a really needed shower before crashing far later than I should have.

IMG_20251009_215131.jpg

I have been to town for grain this morning and will go unload it in a bit. @stryeyz gets home today so we will go pick her up at noon. Rain is inbound and I have to work on the garlic planting still.

When the 40 ft tree is cut, whats your best method to ensure it falls in the right direction. I know of 3 different methods. Cutting a wedge and a notch, which is most common. Tying a rope high up to pull the tree in the right direction when its cut. 3rd is wedge and notch with a steel pry bar inserted in the cut to lever it over in the right direction. Either way beautiful work that's what I like to see.

First off..... WTF 2016??? you are here now? Sorry, but this is cool in a way! How are you back here now after having created an account then and walking away? Or is this an alt you've had this whole time? Just wondering.

Anyway to answer... My intent is to climb my ladder of shortened limbs to the full size branches which I will cut off. I will leave enough to climb on then will get to a point where I feel comfortable topping the tree. I'll likely make a face cut then a back cut to send it the way I want. I actually think I can put it between the the houses. I have ample room and with fewer branches it should go no problem. The lean of the tree even helps me.

I think I read leo finance back in 2016 and wanted to participate but never got around to it. Its not an alt only my regular account that was never active.

Some tree cutters put a steel pry bar into the back cut to lever it into falling in the right direction. I used a nylon 700 lb para cord to force a tree to fall in the right direction earlier this year. But that one was only around 20 feet. Not 40 feet.

I’m sure the homeowners will be very happy with new increased view with the trees gone!👍😊
Sounds like a hard day, my friend! Time for some pizza, beer and hot tub time!🤗
