What an impressive apple tree!
I was recently on a four state trip, and part of it lead me through a portion of Illinois. During that drive something caught my eye. Apple trees are nice, but heavy laden apple trees bowing with fruit can be an incredible sight to behold. I pulled off the road and made contact with the people who lived on the property. My main goal was seed acquisition.
I probably should have asked them a few more questions, but I didn't want to make things any more awkward than they already were. A strange man from out of state randomly knocking on your door and requesting permission to gather rotting fruit from beneath your neglected fruit tree... yeah. Anyway, I was successful and soon had a tray of squishy, juicy apples, with seeds inside. We'll see what the future holds for these, but I sure did like how productive this tree was this year. I just wish that someone would have done more with them instead of just letting them all freeze and rot. Enjoy the photos!
