``THE DANGER OF PRIDE``
--Pride is undue confidence in and attention to one's own skills, accomplishments, state, possession or position.
--Pride is easier to recognise in others than in oneself. Many biblical words describe this concept each with its own emphasis. Some of the synonyms for pride include arrogance, presumption, conceit, self-satisfaction, boasting, and high-mindedness.
--Pride is a direct opposite of humility, the proper attitude one should have in relation to God. Pride is rebellion against God because it attributes to oneself the honour and glory due to God alone. This is the danger!
--Proud persons do not think it necessary to ask for forgiveness because they don't admit their sinful condition. This is deadly.
--This attitude towards God finds expression in one's attitude toward others, often causing people to have a low estimate of the ability and worth of others and therefore to treat them with either contempt or cruelty.
--Some have considered pride to be the root and essence of sin. Others considered it to be sin in its own final form. In either case, it's a grievous sin. Detach from it now before it ruins your entire life.
--'Boasting' can be committed only in the presence of other persons. (1Jn 2:16, Jam.4:16). 'Haughtiness' or 'arrogance' measures self as above others (Mark 7:22-23, Luk.1:51, Rom.1:30, 2Tim.3:2, Jam.4:6, 1Pet.5:5).
--This word refers to primarily to the attitude of one's heart (1Tim.3:6, 6:4, 2Tim.3:4). It emphasises the plight of one who has been blinded by personal pride.
◇◇Pride may appear in many form. Some of the more common are pride of race, spiritual pride, and pride of riches. Jesus denounced pride of race (Luk.3:8)
◇◇The parable of the Pharisee and the Publican was directed to those guilty of spiritual pride, the ones "who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and looked down on everyone else" (Luk.18:9)
◇◇The rich was warned against the temptation to be lifted up with pride because of their wealth (Jam.1:10).
◇◇You need to deal with this evil spirit before it finally gets you out of the way of life. Allow Jesus Christ to help you crush it and then fills you with His perfect Spirit.
