Aunque no nací en tierras cumanesas, disfruto transitar por sus calles llenas de cultura, en esta oportunidad, paseaba por el casco histórico, específicamente, por el Callejón "El alacrán", un sitio largo y estrecho al cual podemos acceder por la Calle Comercio. En tiempos coloniales, fue conocido como callejón de "La Horca o El ahorcado”, ya que por aquí eran conducidos los sentenciados a morir por la justicia, también se cometían actos de crueldad, quizás por ello conserva esa atmósfera misteriosa y sombría.
Although I was not born in Cumana lands, I enjoy walking through its streets full of culture. On this occasion, I was walking through the historic center, specifically through the "El alacrán" alley, a long and narrow site that we can access through Comercio Street. In colonial times, it was known as the "La Horca or El ahorcado" alley, since those sentenced to death by justice were brought here, and acts of cruelty were also committed. Perhaps that is why it still retains that mysterious and somber atmosphere.
Posteriormente, recibió el nombre de "El alacrán”, se dice que éste hace referencia a su pronunciada curva, el objetivo era alejarla de aquella connotación. Aunque, en conversaciones con algunos lugareños, se manejó la teoría de que hace alusión al aguijón mortal de este animal, dado el primer uso de este sitio, lo cual podría considerarse como válido si se toma como una explicación metafórica. Al recorrer este espacio, podemos observar varias casas pintorescas, cuyas fachadas altas, zaguanes y muros colindantes nos llevan a la arquitectura colonial, por ello, poseen una apariencia elegante. No hay dudas de que han sido remodeladas en diferentes períodos, pero aún conservan su diseño original en colores diversos.

There is no doubt that they have been remodeled in different periods, but they still retain their original design in different colors.
Al adentrarnos, nos percatamos que, mediante un angosto pasaje, se llega al río Manzanares. Por la otra salida, nos comunicamos con la iglesia Santa Inés, de hecho, desde ahí se puede ver parte de su estructura. Este lugar icónico está formado por dos calles, la Santa Inés y la Luneta. La importancia de éstas se debe a la cercanía de la iglesia, templo al cual acuden muchos feligreses y es representativo de la ciudad. Su imponente fachada impacta a la vista, aunque más impresionante es su interior. Cuando se dé la ocasión les compartiré unas fotos y, por supuesto, la historia tras esos muros.
As we went in, we realized that, through a narrow passage, we reached the Manzanares river. On the other side, we communicate with the church of Santa Inés, in fact, from there you can see part of its structure. This iconic place is formed by two streets, Santa Inés and Luneta. The importance of these is due to the proximity of the church, temple to which many parishioners go and is representative of the city. En definitiva, el callejón "El alacrán" es un sitio popular para los habitantes de la ciudad y una visita obligada para los turistas. Fue un paseo interesante, las calles con una atmósfera de pasado tienen un especial encanto. Me gustaron estas fotografías porque la Iglesia Santa Inés aparece gloriosa al final del paisaje.
In conclusion, "El Alacrán" alley is a popular site for city residents and a must-see for tourists. It was an interesting walk, the streets with an atmosphere of the past have a special charm. I liked these photographs because the Church of Santa Inés appears glorious at the end of the landscape.
