I don't know if it is just on my end or hive.blog or what but lately my followers and rep have been jumping around a bit. Whether I actually have 500 followers or not, I'm using that as the excuse for posting my first stock image here. Followers are not a measure I generally pay much attention to (especially in light of hive's history) so I figured if I was to acknowledge it then I should also make the post a bit useful.
I'm not quite sure what sort of hawk this is (@melinda010100 do you recognize it?) but I happened across it during a morning walk in Old Louisville. Seemed to be out hunting squirrels or chihuahuas and paid me no mind. There's no releases with this shot so feel free to use it!
Gorgeous shot colonel.

ENGAGEtokens.Thank ya sir!
I'm not an expert on hawks but my guess would be Coopers Hawk. Sometimes unofficially referred to as a chicken hawk.
They occasionally soar through my yard and snatch a smaller bird that has been at my feeder for their lunch.
I'm familiar with the chicken hawk but never from that angle or closeness :) Anything that the crows hated that much was a friend of mine!
Ah yes, the yellow footed winged yellowbeaked hawk...A rare find.
Can you tell I have no clue?
🤣🤣🤣 I expect that it is pining for the fjords as well?
You're obviously at least as well informed on it as I am. It doesn't seem to fall into either the 'potential pest' or the 'tasty game' categories so I'm a bit fuzzy on it.
Well, I may have no clue...Or do I? 😀
Ok, I'll be honest, I have more of an idea on what it is not, than what it is. It's not a flamingo, so clearly I know that much.
A flamingo it is not but I suspect it might be willing to try and eat a flamingo. Definitely not a penguin either....
Lol...Nope, not a penguin.
Hey, I was watching a doco on the Tower of London last night...They were talking about Guido Fawkes (Guy). It was about how they extracted his confession and made him disclose his co-conspirators. I saw an image of his confession document with his name (signature) barely legible, just a scrawl. He was put to the question, (torture) but was supposedly meant to have undergone a more passive torture. One can only imagine the pain he would have suffered. I don't know what you know of the rack but it's not the most pleasant of things to undergo.
So, they racked him. Nope, not talking. I will say nothing, he said. Racked him. And nothing. Three days of the rack...He said everything. Just goes to show how motivated a person can get when on the rack huh? Three days...Most don't last 30 minutes.
They rounded them up and they were all hanged, drawn and quartered. A pretty miserable last few days for guy and his buddy's.
Damn, that had to be a bit intense. Bloody Brits didn't fuck around. Did you know that one of their punishments (at least in India) for mutiny/treason was to be 'fired from a gun'? They'd strap their arms to the wheels of a cannon with their back against the muzzle, loaded with just powder and wadding and fire it. I was reading the other day of F.F.E. Yeo-Thomas, he got to go through the Gestapo's best efforts and didn't talk, I wonder how that would compare to the rack? He survived at least so there is that...
Yeah, the poms sure know how to make a point. I've been to the Tower of London and down in the torture chambers they have a fairly extensive array of implements and apparatus with accompanying explanations...Creative to say the least. But then torture has always been something humans have excelled at. I've read a lot about the subject and some is pretty difficult to imagine (impalement for instance) and yet it happened. Human's are such creative animals.
Shot from a canon huh? I can think of better ways to go, like in my sleep surrounded by family. You know, I've often wondered how I would cope if I was captured and tortured for information. There's no way to know the answer without having it happen though I think.
