The homeless meal went off today without a problem!

in Photography3 years ago (edited)

The last Sunday of every month, we give the homeless a hot meal! We had about 70 show up to eat today, up from the low of forty; when we had to relocate. Our high was close to 300, so we have a ways to go to rebuild.

Our new location allows us to set up on a patio, and for the first time; plug into real power, and not use the generators!

The is setting up:

As you can see, the patio is much better than the canopies we were using!

This is an Elder from my Church:

I asked him to come see what we do, so the church could help. That was three years ago, and he never missed a homeless meal now! He has taken charge of the drinks, and makes sure everyone gets whatever drinks they want. We had iced tea, ice water, and cold water bottles.

Starting up one of the grills:

They had fried egg sandwiches (by request), and grilled cheese sandwiches. They love them Hot!

Here is the spaghetti and garlic bread:

This guy has helped serve for the last eight years. He also cook some of the menu at his house. We have about ten kitchens making food each month, including two church kitchens. Please excuse the finger I got into frame; this is a new phone, and the camera is in a different location!

Table is almost ready to serve:

From the bottom we have; Mac and cheese, garlic bread, spaghetti, barbeque beef, chicken and rice, beef stew, then the grill frying eggs for the sandwiches. Those are being assembled at the far side of the grill. There is a smaller grill behind the big grill, that is cooking the grilled cheese sandwiches. We have to use two grills to keep up with the serving line.

My volunteers, whom I am very proud of;

This is kind of the "end" of the line TV

More volunteers in the center of the line;

This is where the lion's share of the food is served out. We put one volunteer for each roaster.

The start of the line;

The Man in the hat has been passing out plates for us for two years. He was in a wheelchair originally, but is healing. Now he can walk, and still needs to sit; but he has been a faithful volunteer!

The Lady in the pink shirt is cooking the toasted cheese sandwiches. She stayed real busy!

I avoided pictures of the homeless, because a lot of the homeless don't like their pictures taken. They are good people, in a bad spot; and GOD loves them a great deal!

Be blessed

Bless the Most High! He smiles what he sees this!

It is a blessing to be allowed to be GOD's hands for an afternoon! Thanks for coming by.

🤠🙏💗

Keep doing amazing work! Bless you!

It has grown, and I have good help! I was sick and missed about a year ago, and they took care of everything without a hitch.

We now have a group that runs the clothing part, without my supervision.

They are impressive in both places!

🤠💙💗

Very nice and it looked like a great day to be out. You may have covered this before but could you discuss what group does this, or is it yourself. Does the group accept donations?

Keep up the great work!

The group is volunteers from half a dozen churches, who want to help. We feed them, clothe them, find them housing, get them medical help, cut their hair, pray with them on request, and find them jobs. It can get a little busy, LOL 🤕🤠😆

We started about ten years ago, with 2 people, one table, a roaster of chicken and rice, and two gallons of Mac and cheese. We fed 60 that first day.

Most of our donations are food or clothes, but everything goes to the homeless! A lot of our volunteers bring food that they buy and cook, I am so proud of them.

We have seen miracles of provisioning that are stunning. We were running out of food on the Sunday close to thanks giving, and we had a Man drive up with a station wagon full of food! His church planned a catered meal that weather cancelled. He was driving home, to try to find freezer space; when he saw us feeding! He said he didn't normally come that way....

I was short handed once, due to vacations and family emergencies; and I called a friend to ask if he could help. He goes to a Mennonite church, and he announced it in the service...we got 30 volunteers that day! The church only has 60 members.

It is never boring, LOL 😆

Looks like the new spot will be very helpful and well done to all who helped.

It is a big improvement for sure, and if it rains; we can still set up the canopies to protect from the rain.

It is a big plus and will help us concentrate on feeding, while using less work hours on setup.

💗🤠😃🙏
