Sometimes, they just make a good tank with certain rulesets. The Peaceful Giant is a good example of that. When it's maxed out and has like 17 life points and you've got a Back to Basics battle, it comes in handy. With a high enough mana cap, some of those cards can still be a good tank if you set up the right attackers behind it. Basically, they can buy you a few rounds of protection.
