Cleaning and sorting my jars of herbs and spices and teas today, got me thinking how essential and rewarding some aesthetics and order is, in a happy functioning kitchen/ larder...

the herbal tisanes and steaming shelf
I had a load in the kitchen in front of where I cook, and a load in the cantina (cellar) - behind the kitchen and down some steps.

marigold (calendula) and olive leaves
I had the realisation, in detoxing from caffeine (yikes - ****ing brutal!) that it's much less convenient to make up a pot of herbal tea, particularly if the herbs aren't fresh - and in clear view in front of me!

astralago, for steaming - very bitter and smelly!
So I spent a lot of today moving my empty 20 milk bottles (I use them for water harvesting from the local spring) into the cantina - and moving all the wild flower, leaf, bark and seed teas back up to the kitchen.

vitex agnus castus, for medicine and steaming; thankfully I'd harvested these last year, before my neighbours poisoned the tree and killed it :-(
Bringing my inner world into order, by putting my house in order.

delicious rose petals, which I often make a strong tisane from and use in the bath
Doing this, I remember what a wealth of healing, pleasure and perfume I posess! And new daily practises, ideas and pleasure-full therapies come to mind!

my cooking spices, cereals and popcorn and olives and suchlike - these shelves are made from old drawers :-D
Being an artist, I often spend multiple hours at a time, deeply immersed in creative flow; I can quite forget about bodily needs, as I'm energised by the inspiration of simply being in Divine Union With this Flow. Oopah!

freshly-dried peppers for making paprika, hanging by their stems
But having things beautifully arranged, in colourful jars and boxes, where the light can hit them, means that just walking into the kitchen is aesthetically stimulating!

wee, recently-harvested peperoncini, from seeds I'd harvested locally and then replanted in the town's flower chests (which they abandoned)
Which in turn inspires me to also be creative in the kitchen; to bring that Flow from the studio in here too, rather than seeing the two rooms as difference dimensions!

recently picked tomatoes - joy!
I love to see my veggies and things displayed beautifully: the deep sense of metaphor bringing all things into symbiosis - of harmony of colour, texture, weight, composition... the whole image, over months and years, coming more and more into wholeness. Just like painting, a certain feeling of completion coming, the longer we dedicate to making it more beautiful and special.
Yum!
Blessings on your kitchen! Share a photo below if you're so-inspired; I adore seeing inside others' kitchens!
