Sunflower Seeds are more than just a "pretty picture"

We have all seen the beautiful sunflower fields as we drive around. The bright yellow colors of the flower is natures way of telling us something.

The sunflower has become more popular than ever as a nutritional ingredient in our kitchens and snacks. The nutritional benefits are known by more and more people each year. The Sunflower Seeds of course are popular as an: oil, seed form on salads or other foods.

What exactly are the nutritional benefits of sunflower seeds? Well for one, they are very high in Vitamin B-6 ,Magnesium and Iron. They also provide a low-carb benefit as well as good fiber. They can play a role in heart health (with their magnesium) and are generally seen as lowering inflammation in the body. Who knew that this seed was so powerful?

We would be remiss if we did not share how beautiful the flower can be as in bouquet for your home or to simply add color to your garden.

I really enjoy sunflower seeds on all my salads and super easy to make. Take your favorite salad preference and add some olive oil and balsamic vinegar as a dressing and then simply add a few toppings. I enjoy dried cranberries, sliced carrots and few tomatoes with the sunflower seeds and you have a treat.

So next time you see some sunflowers or sunflower seeds, grab a pack for your salads or as a treat with some brie cheese and dried cranberries (soo good)...but then you need a glass of cabernet wine if you go that route.

Thank you for reading. I am sure many of you have your own favorite recipes and even more uses with the beloved sunflower :-)
